Black Pearl in Fitzroy named best bar in Australasia at World’s 50 Best Bar awards 2018

THE best bars on the planet have been named and a Melbourne favourite is still shaking up a storm on the global stage, coming in at 30 on the World’s 50 Best Bar list for 2018. SEE THE FULL LIST

THE best bars on the planet have been named — and Melbourne’s Black Pearl is still shaking up a storm on the world stage.

The 16-year-old Fitzroy bar was again named the best bar in Australasia at the World’s 50 Best Bar awards at a ceremony in London overnight.

The Brunswick Street bar came in at 30 in the world in the prestigious list, and while it dropped 8 spots from last year, it was the only Australian bar to make this year’s top 50.

Dandelyan in London was crowned Best Bar in the World, taking the title from the American Bar at The Savoy Hotel in London, which dropped to number 2.

Attaboy in New York, owned by Melbourne expat Sam Ross, again featured on the list but dropped from its top 10 spot to 15 this year.

Melbourne’s Above Board bar, in Collingwood, was ranked 95 in the secondary 51-100 list.

While the US and UK continue to dominate the awards with 10 bars in each, nine bars across Asia made this year’s list including five in Singapore.

Singapore’s Manhattan at the Regent Hotel again took out the crown of Best Bar in Asia, with bars in China, Japan and Taiwan also included in the list.

This year’s list features bars from 26 cities in 20 countries and is voted on by more than 500 industry experts from around the world.

It was also announced that the World’s50 Best Bars awards will be held in Singapore in 2021, with the sibling World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards also held there next year.
