Love is dead: Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck

On a day that has a special meaning to both, the singer has made her split from the actor official. 

It's the news we all saw coming but wished it would never happen. Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from actor Ben Affleck. 

Official paperwork obtained by entertainment website TMZ has confirmed the couple has called it quits for good with the 55-year-old singer making the first legal move. 

According to reports, J.Lo filed papers in LA on Tuesday August 20th, the same date as their two-year wedding anniversary.

J.Lo and Ben officially split... again

J.Lo and Ben made headlines for their rekindled romance and surprised many fans when they married on the actor's estate in Georgia in 2022. 

They made headlines again earlier this year with rumours of a split and Jennifer's paperwork filed this week confirmed they were sitting on a little secret all this time, with their official separation dating back to April 26th 2024.

Reports claim the reason for the delay in confirming their split was due to their private attempts to reach a financial settlement.

It is unclear if the pair had a prenuptial agreement in place and it is believed J.Lo waived her right to spousal support and has requested for a judge to deny Ben spousal support as well.

Second time (not so) lucky

During their wedding in Georgia, Ben opened up about why he split from J.Lo 18 years ago before reuniting with the whole world watching on. 

According to US Weekly, Ben said in an emotional wedding speech that he and J.Lo didn't get married when they were engaged in 2002 because they were destined to go on to have their respective children.

A source said: "Ben made an impassioned speech professing his love for Jennifer and her kids and said the children are the blessing and gift that happened because they didn't get married before, and that is proof that everything happens for a reason."

The Georgia wedding was held after one month of marriage for the couple, after they eloped in Las Vegas in July.
