Little-known Maccas hack scores you cheap meals every time

Following one woman's specific instructions, you'll not only save money but automatically get a large fries too. 

A thrifty McDonald's customer has shared a little-known hack that'll see you get an upgraded meal and also save money in the process.

Sharing to the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group, the Aussie said the ordering trick works both in-store and at drive-thru.

And apparently, it's as simple as changing one single element in the meal.

"You get a free large fries upgrade for cheaper than a medium meal"

"Order a large meal, then when they ask you what drink you want, say you want a medium Coke," she explained in her post, which has since gone viral in the group.

She says this will score you a "free large fries upgrade for cheaper than a medium meal."

Essentially, you'll be paying less but will still get a 'large' meal with a smaller drink for cheaper than a medium meal. 

Elaborating on the hack further (after much confusion) the woman said that the changed meal ends up being cheaper than a medium meal, but includes large chips rather than medium chips.

"I'll give it a try!"

People were quick to test out the hack in order to confirm whether or not it worked. 

"I'm so shocked," wrote one. "I just tested the idea and ordered a large cheeseburger meal and changed the drink to medium. It’s only $0.10 difference but I scored a large fries in the process."

Meanwhile, Maccas workers entered the chat to confirm that the hack did indeed work. Plus, they said that the drinks are virtually the same size anyway.

"You can get any size drink with any meal. I used to do that when I worked there as it's cheaper and a large/medium cup is basically the same size," the former worker said.

Others claimed they knew about the hack "for ages."

"Been doing this for the last 18 years but with a small drink," one user shared.

"I've been doing this for ages and also buying the Happy Meal instead of the small cheeseburger meal," another concluded.
