Training for the New York Marathon has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life.
As I’ve worked through each stage – building up distance, working on my pace, and finding the mental toughness to keep going – music has been my constant motivator.
There’s something about the right song at the right moment that boosts your mood and pushes you through, especially when your runs start to get tough.
During my training, I discovered the most empowering playlist. Maddi, one of our amazing Kic team members, created Hot Girl Run while training for the Sydney Marathon, and trust me, she nailed it. She knows exactly which tunes will keep you moving!
Whether you're easing your way towards your first 5km or tackling a long-distance run, this playlist needs to be on your radar.
Here are the top songs from the list that have had the biggest impact on my marathon prep:
When it’s time to push myself through my interval runs I can ALWAYS count on this song, and honestly I’ll play it on repeat. Trust me, the beat is so good and the fact the lyrics are saying “it’s that time”, “Move that body”, makes it the ultimate motivator.
The vibes are high whenever this remix comes on! It’s so nostalgic and perfect for my longer runs when I’m starting to feel tired. I can’t help but smile!
Another throwback tune! It’s the perfect blend of feel-good vibes and drive, helping me power through even the most challenging runs.
It’s one of those tracks that makes you want to keep moving, no matter how tired you feel, and it reminds me to focus on the joy of running rather than the struggle. It’s become a staple for pushing past mental and physical barriers.
If I had to listen to one song on repeat, it would be Prada. I love saving this song for the end of my run because I know it will power me through!
Is it just me, or do some songs make you want to dance while you’re running?! This is one of them for me. It’s such a feel-good tune. Can always count on Taylor to bring the vibes!

Wrapping up with another endorphin-boosting, uplifting track - perfect for a mid-run boost. It’s one of those songs that makes you smile as you run. When my motivation is lacking, or that negative self-talk is coming in, this song brings a burst of positive energy when I need it most. It’s become a go-to for maintaining momentum during longer runs.
In marathon training, there are moments where you have to dig deep to find motivation to keep going – especially when it feels like your body (and mind) is ready to give up.
That’s where the right song can change everything. Whether the lyrics are uplifting or there’s a steady beat to match your pace, music keeps me focused and motivated.
I encourage you to find those songs that lift you up and keep you moving. They’ve made all the difference in my journey.
