Sol de Janeiro has emerged as one of the most coveted brands for teens, known for its enticing, fruity-inspired body sprays.

But despite carving a niche for itself and growing a dedicated following, the high-end price tag leaves a lot to be desired for the budget-conscious.

Enter Smooch Body, a body mist with the same luxe appeal but designed for a pocket money budget.

What are the Smooch Body body mists?

Smooch Body, crafted by Aussie mum and entrepreneur Luisa, is taking the teen world by storm, selling one of its Eau De Toilette body mists every five minutes.

What scents are there?

The brand currently has five scents, Ria, Nikki, Janey, Ellie and Pip, named after special people in Luisa’s life who have inspired her on her journey as a mother.

From Ellie's bold and sweet scent to Pip's cool and effortless aroma and Janey's warm tropical vibes, there's a fragrance to suit every mood and occasion.

How much do they cost?

Smooch Body mists retail for $36 for 90mL.

While they’re at the pricier end of dupes, they match higher-end body sprays more closely than other knock-offs from Kmart ($8) and MCoBeauty ($20.)

“I struggled to find something on the market that ticked all the boxes”

When Luisa saw her teens craving stylish, quality body mists, she knew the market was missing something.

“I have two teenagers and growing up I was an avid user of perfume body mists well into my early 20s,” Luisa told Kidspot. “My daughter happened to ask me for a body mist but I struggled to find something on the market that was Australian-made, had really great packaging at a reasonable price, smelt nice, not pungent and was easy enough to be carried in her school sports bag.”

She then dreamed up Smooch Body and started it as a side hustle that soon turned into a full-time gig.

“I decided to create my own range of fragrances for the Gen Z  market,” says Luisa, “something that was light, could be topped up throughout the day and, of course, smelt amazing.”

She adds: “Many of our shoppers are repeat customers who are buying the spray for their daughters. Our most recent launch of the Nikki has seen many compliments from mothers who are also obsessed with the fragrance as much as their children/teens which is so wonderful to see.”

And the testimonials from happy customers speak for themselves.

One online reviewer wrote, “The scents are even better and longer-lasting than my expensive perfumes! Their size makes them so easy to carry in my handbag and car.”

Another shared: “Literally just a couple of sprays and I can smell it all day.”

"Addictive": Our review

Kidspot Lifestyle Editor, Leah, handed the Smooch Body sprays to her nine-year-old daughter Maddie, who became an instant fan.

"My daughter is at the age where she knows body sprays are a thing and wants the Mecca popular brands but also doesn't know the exact brands," Leah says.

“These smell just as good and she doesn't even know they're not sold at Mecca! She does a little spray before school and loves herself sick when she has it on. A little bit of the adult world without costing the world. We love!”

And of course, I had to give them a whirl too and let me just say, these guys are ADDICTIVE.

Even though I'm nearly 30, they're not too 'young' smelling and still have a classy edge to them, something you'd expect from a perfume.

And it's not just me who is hooked. People are constantly asking me what I’m wearing when I have it on, so I'll definitely be keeping one of these bad boys in my handbag moving forward.

Try them for yourself, and I promise you the compliments won’t stop coming!
