Masterchef favourite Julie Goodwin has claimed she still gets hassled and humiliated by cops who nabbed her for drink driving six years ago.

The 2009 MasterChef Australia winner was convicted of drink driving and had her license suspended after she recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.107, more than double the legal limit.

“It was the worst thing I’ve ever done,” Goodwin said on the LiSTNR podcast, Stories Of Us, hosted by Sarah Grynberg.

“I am still not done with the shame of that experience. It was a terrible, terrible night. What it did for me was just illustrate how far ... I had gone. I had always been a rule keeper ... an upstanding citizen. I lost everything about me.”

Goodwin said she drank to cope with pressure as a fledgling chef, then, after finding success, the spotlight that followed her as a hospo celebrity.

Goodwin claimed police seemed “delighted” when they busted her for DUI on the NSW central coast.

“The cops who pulled me over were delighted. Delighted!” Goodwin said. “There was no one there but me and the cops. And one of them literally laughed and rubbed his hands together in glee.

“The whole thing was so humiliating. And I did ask them, ‘Is this a private situation or is this going to become public knowledge? And they said, ‘We’ve got no control over who saw it.’”

Goodwin claimed one of the arresting officers still taunts her about the incident.

“One of them still hassles me. If I’m in the shops and he sees me, he’ll yell out, ‘Watch the points, Jules!’

“If he sees my car, he pulls me over and breathalyze me wherever I am. That’s ongoing and I can’t do anything about it because I don’t want more than one hassling me. I just put up with it and consider it to be part of my penance.”

Goodwin quit drinking after her DUI arrest.

“I will never do it again. Alcohol got me by the balls. And it wouldn’t let me go.”
