Jamie and Dave have long been the saving grace of this season of MAFS.
While all the other couples have either bickered since day dot (ahem, Jacqui and Ryan), or more recently found themselves in hot water for one reason or another, Jamie and Dave have consistently come into every dinner party and commitment ceremony united and on the same page.
Well, until now.

The beginning of the end for Jamie and Dave
At the last commitment ceremony, after the couple’s retreat which caused a blow up between Jamie, Lauren and the rest of the group, viewers were quick to notice that Dave looked almost hollow speaking to the experts.
Just days earlier, Jamie confessed to Dave that she loved him, with no response at the time. Though, ordinarily, this wouldn’t be a big deal - because people’s feelings progress on different timelines - it seems in this case, it is.
For this week’s couple swap, Jamie was paired with Awhina’s husband Adrian, whilst Eliot’s wife Veronica moved into the apartment with Dave.
Initially, it seemed as though this would be one of the less-drama-filled pairings, but the fall out was immense.
Jamie spent her two nights with Adrian having a few eye opening (and incredibly rude) conversations about the reasons why Dave might not want to be intimate with her - and Adrian, in true Adrian fashion, made it pretty clear there’d be no other reason than ‘he’s just not that into you’.
In the meantime, Dave and Veronica were on the complete other side of the spectrum, enjoying shared meals, giggling, and even sleeping in the same bed. Hmm…

"We may not be able to come back from that"
Due to what happened with Adrian, there’s no surprise why Jamie came in swinging once reunited with Dave.
Beaten down and suddenly hyperaware of the fact that the man she loves may not have any feelings for her at all, she quickly went into the offense after reading out her letter, confessing these doubts in their connection and how it impacts their sex lives.
Dave’s answer that he wasn’t as confident as she was, and that he didn’t care about intimacy in that way, simply wasn’t good enough.
“I’m questioning the feelings part, and I think I’m fair to question it. I need to know,” she says to him.
“Maybe it is because you’re not feeling it, and that’s why the sex thing is an issue. In your vows, you said, ‘I want to buy you flowers’, and maybe that’s why you don’t do that stuff - because you don’t have those feelings for me.
“That’s okay - you just need to tell me.”
Ultimately, despite initially saying that that was a ‘terrible thing to say’, Dave goes on to admit that she was right, and the feelings just aren’t there for him - after Jamie raised her voice just a tad.
And so, the dream came crashing down.
“This is the first time in this experiment that I’ve questioned whether Dave and I will work,” Jamie says.
“We may not be able to come back from that.”

Who is Dave really?
Now that we’re left with exactly zero solid couples left in the experiment (except maybe Jeff and Rhi, but that’s a HUGE maybe), people are starting to wonder when everything turned so sour for everyone’s favourite couple.
Conspiracies around Dave’s change in demeanour have been rife. Perhaps Jamie’s confession left him overwhelmed, or, maybe he did love her, but a change in his personal life was what caused the rift - as Jamie said to Yahoo Lifestyle.
But, according to a few sources, this shift may be representative of a much larger issue.
This week, a close friend of Dave’s ex-fiance Stephanie Jaksch spoke to Woman’s Day, confessing that Dave’s ‘nice guy’ depiction isn’t quite true to real life.
The pair were together for three and a half years, and were engaged in late 2022. However, they broke things off in late 2023 - allegedly just in time for FBoy Island applications.
However, whilst he didn’t make it onto FBoy Island, he was ultimately selected for MAFS - which Steph learned at the same time as the rest of the country.
“The advertising started and the grooms were revealed – that’s when Steph found out,” the source said.
“No one wants to hear that their ex-fiancé is getting married let alone have that happen on national TV!”
It seems that the partner swap was also more significant than viewers might think, with Dave and Veronica since spotted together on the outside - with no sight of Jamie.
Based on the previews, it looks like we’re in for a shocker of a dinner party, and I don’t think I’m ready.
