IKEA’s latest collection will have wellness and fitness fanatics racing in store. Here are the best products set to drop on January 1st.

There are two types of people in this world– those that love an IKEA trip, and those that have nightmares about one. If you’re like me, there’s no greater thrill than following the bright yellow and blue arrows through the store’s chaos, filling your trolley with items you never even knew you needed.

Known for their shockingly affordable gadgets and furniture staples (and the impossible instruction manuals that come with them) IKEA has always been the go-to destination for shoppers looking to jazz up any space.

But, unlike the arguably useless variety of napkin holders and clothes pegs at every twist and turn, the furniture conglomerate’s latest venture into the fitness sector is set to see shoppers everywhere racing in-store when the new year rolls around.

In timing that can only be described as impeccable, the new collection drops in stores and online on January 1st. Set to accompany your New Year’s resolutions, the limited edition DAJLIEN range will shake up your space and routine, with 22 stylish lifestyle products.

The DAJLIEN collection, named after the Swedish word for ‘daily’, represents the new age of at-home convenience and customisation taking over the fitness industry. With prices ranging from $6 to $149, each product in the range is not only affordable but designed for easy use and transportation.

“Not everyone feels safe or comfortable going to a gym and at home we often deal with small space and time constraints. DAJLIEN was born from the desire to find smart solutions that address these limitations and help people create a convenient and motivating place for exercise", explains Sarah Fager, designer at IKEA.

“We wanted to create smart, beautiful products to inspire and redefine training as a fun, easy and natural everyday activity,”   she adds.

Designed to solve real life problems

The range of fitness, recovery and stress relief products are inspired by the belief that everyone should strive for a little bit of physical activity every day, no matter how busy we each can find ourselves.

After the last few pandemic-led years of displacement and isolation, IKEA gathered insights from stores around the world regarding people’s experiences exercising from home. The findings highlight an overarching sentiment of disconnect amongst people when it comes to working out in their household, as opposed to a public gym or outdoors.

Moreover, IKEA’s research also uncovered people’s ability to exercise at home was largely hindered by a resounding lack of motivation, spatially limited environments, and constraints on time. Plus, the findings also revealed people believe most exercise products on the market to be bulky and not aligned with their home decor.

Designed to offer multi-functional solutions that complement your home’s style and setup, the DAJLIEN collection explores both effective training equipment and practical storage pieces.

“DAJLIEN is all about supporting movement and helping people live more active lives at home,” says Akanksha Deo, another designer at IKEA. “We have designed a collection that helps bridge the gap between home and active life, that recognises that training can take many shapes and forms and that you don’t need a lot of space to do a simple workout.”

Some highlights of the collection include a selection of yoga and training mats (from $39), a $49 step-up board, $35 ring-shaped dumbbells and a $59 air purifier. The range of products is designed with subtle colours and details, conscious not to detract attention from your existing space’s decor.

So, if Santa doesn’t deliver your favourite fitness-inspired picks this Christmas, head into an IKEA store in the new year to stock up on their new range of smart, adaptable products.
