#2. Get yourself a good support system
Finding your own team of cheerleaders is important, says Stephens. “In order to be successful, you must develop a strong team around you,” he says. “One that supports you and facilitates the healthiest environment for you to thrive. For me that comes in the form of coaching staff, a physiotherapist, doctor, psychologist, nutritionist and exercise physiologist.”
But friends are just as important; “All these factors are also then supported by the group of athletes I surround myself with.” he says. While you may not be in need of your own exercise physiologist (just yet), encouragement from a personal trainer can make a world of difference if you find yourself in a fitness rut.
"Overtraining and lack of balance" are the biggest risks when it comes to levelling up your training, adds Stephen. "This is why having a knowledgeable team around you is so important. Being honest and upfront with your team is crucial to maintaining a healthy training environment that supports a holistic approach to success."
If you don't have someone literally on the ground to train with you, then virtual trainers are a great substitute. Fitness apps are in no short supply: Apple has just welcomed Apple Fitness+ with more than 5000 different workouts available to pick from. Plus, Technogym – who are the official equipment sponsor for Paris 2024 – have a Coach function on the Technogym app to guide you on your way, even if you don't have the gear.
Whatever you choose, make sure you have some form of accountability and support system to see you on your fitness travels.
