Kay Turner was first in line at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre after arriving at 3am on Friday morning to secure three Paul McCartney tickets.
The Advertiser understands online general tickets for McCartney’s Got Back Adelaide show sold out within two minutes.
Ms Turner said she was the first one in line at 3am and her early morning wake-up was a stroke of good luck.
“I did try very hard with the Telstra Plus and Frontier Touring members presales but missed out,” she said.
“I woke up at one this morning and thought ‘it’s my only chance’ to get tickets.”
The global tour kicks off with an “intimate” arena show at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on October 18 – the 81-year-old’s first South Australian show in 30 years.
In the 1960s during the Beatles first visit to Australia, an estimated 350,000 fans lined the streets between the airport and Town Hall to catch a glimpse of the band.
“I thought it would be so hard to get tickets being a small venue,” Ms Turner said.
“Especially for Paul McCartney.”
Ms Turner said she missed out on Taylor Swift tickets for her granddaughter and didn’t want a repeat for McCartney so was committed to being at the front of the line.
“I parked along the Torrens because I didn’t know how long I would be there,” she said.
“So it was just me and my hat and chair walking along … I was the only one there until quarter-past-six.”
With the tickets secured for her family, Ms Turner said she was most excited to see the technology on display to bring McCartney and John Lennon together on stage again.
