It’s a debate that could last until the end of time, but it’s hard to disagree with the Spin King about Entourage’s super agent or Fawlty Towers’ eccentric hotel manager.

Anyone from Will and Grace and Friends, to Doogie Howser MD and boss lady Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote. Sam Malone on Cheers, Lucy Ricardo as Lucille Ball on I Love Lucy, Al Bundy, Kermit the Frog on The Muppet Show, Ryan Atwood on The OC, Don Draper on Mad Men, Mr Bean. The list goes on.
As Gold would say, let’s hug it out and enjoy looking at some of the TV greats.
ARI GOLD , ENTOURAGE
The super agents of agents. Gold was a screaming, tantrum-throwing, politically incorrect liar and we all wanted more.
BASIL FAWLTY, FAWLTY TOWERS
Cynical, snobbish, eccentric hotel manager who was made iconic by John Cleese. Still as funny and painful as ever.
TONY SOPRANO, THE SOPRANOS
One of TV’s most ruthless and intimidating characters, James Gandolfini played this foul mouthed gangster to perfection. He could kill a guy, but he could also undergo therapy which made him oddly relatable.
BUFFY SUMMERS, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
One of the most heroic ladies in TV history. She is capable of taking down her enemies with both brain and brawn.
HOMER SIMPSON, THE SIMPSONS
A beer drinking, doughnut loving, couch potato father — Homer Simpson was a menace for 26 years. Homer has even made it into the American dictionary.
TYRION LANNISTER, GAME OF THRONES
Peter Dinklage plays this dwarf wordsmith with flair. His quick wit, articulate speeches and philandering ways endeared him to all in Westeros and beyond.
WALTER WHITE, BREAKING BAD
A chemistry teacher turned meth-cooking crime lord. Bryan Cranston’s portrayal of Walter “Heisenberg” White was one of the most powerful and fascinating characters of all time.
BRENDA WALSH, BEVERLY HILLS 90210
The coolest in the hood, Brenda always had a boyfriend and always had fashion down pat. Her 90210 escapades made her every boy’s dream in the 90s.
THE FONZ, HAPPY DAYS
Arthur Fonzarelli, better known as The Fonz, could make an entrance and whack a jukebox with the ultimate cool. Henry Winkler made leather jacket wearing a thing.
SEINFELD
Can’t separate Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer. All unique, all had us in stitches and each had their own inglorious moments. Even the cameos from Newman are worth a shout out.
CARRIE BRADSHAW, SEX AND THE CITY
The trials and tribulations of a single gal in New York became every girl’s bible. Carrie was a writer who unashamedly loved shoes as she set about her quest for real love.
JOAN ‘THE FREAK’ FERGUSON, WENTWORTH
Originally played by Maggie Kirkpatrick in Prisoner the horror prison officer role has been reprised by Pamela Rabe in Foxtel’s gripping drama Wentworth. There is nothing The Freak won’t do.
