It’s understood the rocks began to crumble underfoot, causing the man to plunge below the cliff face, located in an isolated area at the end of a dirt road, north of the edge of Myponga Beach.

Rescuers discovered the man, who was hanging onto the rocks with a single hand.

A radio report from emergency services described the distressing scene.

“The male is cramping. He’s got a single foot hold on the far left and struggling to hold on, over,” they said, per 9News.

Paramedics, specialist Star Group experts, and Country Fire Service and SES volunteers were called to the scene to help rescue the man.

Afraid the man could be blown off the face of the cliff by the rescue helicopter, the man was eventually rescued with the help of a winch, which was used to pull the man up the edge of the cliff.

The rescue took about an hour to complete.
