‘Love this’: Frenzy over $29 Kmart dupe of luxe $5000 coffee table

Kmart fans are going wild for this bargain DIY dupe of a lavish piece of furniture that sells for up to $5000.

Women ‘dying to buy’ new $35 Kmart dress

DIY enthusiasts are losing it over this “super easy” bargain Kmart dupe of a $5000 coffee table.

A thrifty shopper shared her incredible transformation of an old table she bought second hand on Facebook marketplace.

The woman said that the original table had scuffs and marks on it, and was in dire need of a makeover.

She bought Kmart’s popular 4 pack stone decking tiles for $29, along with a packet of grout and a tube of superglue.

The woman taped around the side of the table, before applying the decking tiles with glue. She then filled the gaps with grout.

“I bought this table on Marketplace, it’s from Freedom,” she said.

“It had some marks on the top and I used the Kmart decking tiles to create my new coffee table.

“So happy with how it turned out. Thank you Kmart.”

The chic finished product is very similar to a $A5000 dupe sold on a US furniture site.

Other group members were very impressed with the woman’s project and said they were going to try something similar at home.

“Absolutely gorgeous” one person said. “I am so going to try this!”

“Such a great job, well done,” wrote another. “It looks professional”

“This is so good. Beautiful. Braver than me,” a third commented.

The woman said she was inspired after watching DIY reels on TikTok, where people show off their best home transformations.

“The grouting was definitely more work than I had anticipated, but it turned out OK,’ she said.

“I just watched an Instagram reel as my guide. I didn’t have enough grout to start so then I made a mad dash to Bunnings for more, then I took a while to sponge the grout off the actual tiles.

“I went over each one so many times to get them really smooth and clean.

“So not really hard, just a slower process than I anticipated and I’m super impatient.

“The tiles became different colours as they darkened from the grout.”

Last month, a woman shared how she saved more than $4000 by updating her kitchen with the help of Kmart and Bunnings.

The woman revealed she was given a $4500 quote for a custom sideboard but, unhappy with the cost, decided to make her own.

She picked up three of Kmart’s Slatted Storage Cabinets, as well as half moon handles which she swapped out.

The woman spray-painted the handles and legs, before painting the cabinets Licorice Green, a colour she picked up from Bunnings.

She added anyone looking to mimic her look should use a shellac undercoat and paint the doors before assembling it.

“It will save you a world of pain,” she joked, adding the whole job cost her $450 – a tenth of the original quote.
