Woman creates side-table out of unlikely Kmart and Bunnings items

A woman has transformed an unexpected item from Kmart and Bunnings into a gorgeous piece of furniture that has left many stunned.

Woman’s unexpected Kmart transformation

An Aussie interior designer has transformed an unlikely Kmart item into a stunning piece of furniture.

Samantha Milne, from Tasmania, took to the Bunnings Workshop forum to reveal how she transformed two chopping boards from the discount store into a trendy side table using just a few items from Bunnings.

“In need of a new side table I decided to get creative using some porta timber and terrazzo,” she said in the post.

“For this project I used a terrazzo outdoor table from Bunnings and some porta timber 18mm fly bead dowels.”

To create the piece, she connected the two round chopping boards with ‘struts’ using scrap pieces of timber to create a frame.

She then used the Gorilla glue to attach the porta timber half dowels which she had cut to size.

“The final piece is the terrazzo tabletop ($49.98) which I sourced from a small @bunnings outdoor table,” she wrote in a separate post.

“Side table perfection! Amazing work, and love how you styled it,” one DIY enthusiast commented.

“Wow this is so clever! I love it!” wrote another.

Bunnings also shared the creative design to their social media accounts.

“It looks really pretty and very stylish that’s for sure,” one woman commented.

“Can she make me one too,” another joked.

It comes after another savvy woman transformed an old laminate table into a white-tiled pedestal table using plastic bins form Bunnings.

Geneva Vanderzeil, who regularly shares TikToks of her Bunnings makeovers, clocked almost one million views on her latest upcycle project.

The 35-year-old used a $38 plastic bin to create the base of the table after randomly spotting it while hunting for materials to help give the $10 second-hand table a fresh, new look.

Ms Vanderzeil spent just under $200 worth of materials at Bunnings including $90 on penny ceramic mosaic tile sheets, $48 on gyprock compound, $7 on fibreglass and $17 on grout sealer. The self-taught handywoman then got to work, creating a white-tiled pedestal table in just two days.

“That looks so good!” one stunned viewer wrote.

“Wooooooow, absolutely love it. So cool,” said another, while a third added: “Duuuuuuuuude! That look AMAZING!”

She said she was blown away by the huge reaction. “I was hoping people would like it and I am so glad they do.”
