A Sydney exterminator, known on TikTok as @roachsniper, has sent shivers down the spines of viewers with a stomach-churning video.
The footage reveals a mattress so horrifically infested with bed bugs that it’s been dubbed a “nightmare”.
The video starts innocently enough, showcasing a once-blue mattress now stained yellow and riddled with tiny black dots.
Roachsniper’s voiceover sets the scene: “I’m going to flip this mattress in a second and just have a look at the extent of this.”
The anticipation builds as he cuts to a close-up of the mattress top. “There’s a whole harbourage in that crack,” he exclaims, zooming in on a teeming mass of bugs, one even daring to leap.
“Up we go,” he says as he lifts the mattress, revealing a scene that could make even the most hardened viewer gag.
The underside is a canvas of yellowy-white punctuated by clusters of black bugs. “Oh my lord … oh my lord,” he repeats, his voice laced with a mix of disgust and morbid fascination.
The camera focuses on a particularly repulsive stain, a dark yellow splotch teeming with tiny black bodies.
“Damn, this is a winner too,” he says, panning across the mattress to showcase the sheer scale of the infestation.
It doesn’t end there; the metal bed frame is also crawling with the critters. “Ahhhh … oh my god. Oh my god.”
No surprise, the comments section explodes with shock and horror.
“IN AUSTRALIA?!?!?,” one writes in disbelief.
“Brooo, I would have been leaping out my skin, didn’t think bed bugs were a big problem in Australia, but damn that’s an infestation.” adds another.
Roachsniper responds to the concerns, confirming that bed bugs are indeed a growing problem in Australia, particularly in areas with high tourist traffic like Bondi and Coogee.
He explains that the pandemic has exacerbated the issue, with travellers unknowingly bringing these unwelcome guests with them.
The exterminator’s nonchalant “it’s getting a treatment” in response to questions about the mattress’s fate only adds to the viewers’ distress.
“Wait so these people are just having [it] sprayed??? And not throwing it out?!” a concerned viewer asks incredulously.
Roachsniper explains that the tenants, residents of a boarding house, cannot afford new beds, and he hopes his treatment will provide some relief, especially during the holiday season.
Many viewers express their disgust and offer suggestions ranging from burning the mattress to “throwing away the house.”
One commenter, however, captures the sentiment of many: “This is so sad! I’ve never even seen one in person before, let alone something like this. Must be horrible to live with.”
The video is a chilling reminder that even the most mundane objects can harbour hidden horrors.
May it serve as a skin-crawling wake-up call to be vigilant and take preventive measures against these tiny but formidable foes.
Sleep tight, and don’t let the bed bugs bite – because evidently in Australia, they just might …
