EVER wondered who owns those homes you see featured in architectural magazines and interior design blogs?
Then I Own Australia’s Best Home, which will be shown on Foxtel’s LifeStyle Home, is the show for you! Each week viewers peek inside three amazing Australian houses, and meet the owners who proudly call them their own — all in a quest to see who owns the country’s ‘best.’
How does it work?
Over 10 weeks, the show’s three hosts, each experts in their own fields, visit one of three Australian homes. They have a look around, put them through their paces, chat to the owners, and stay for 24 hours for the full experience.
Then it’s back to Studio HQ to discuss what each of them have seen, for a vigorous debate on why they think each house could be Australia’s ‘Best’. There’s also a ‘Get the Look’ segment, which shows us how to emulate each houses’ unique style.
Then it’s over to us! Viewers get to vote for their favourite home each week. The house with the most votes at the end of the series will be crowned ‘Australia’s Best Home’ and win $30,000 for the charity of their choice.
Who are the experts?
Gillian Khaw, interior designer
Gillian has spent her career working on interior projects all over the world. She now lives back in Australia, and runs her own interior design studio, Handelsmann and Khaw. Beginning her career as an antiques dealer, she has a keen eye for historical pieces, and enjoys mixing contemporary and old finds.
Nick Tobias, architect
Nick is the show’s resident architect and he’s certainly well qualified to cast his eye — at just 22 he started his own architectural firm while still at university. Now aged 40, he’s one of Australia’s most acclaimed architects, responsible for some of the country’s most striking residences, including Bondi’s famed Deepwater House.

How do we vote?
After each episode, viewers can head to www.lifestyle.com.au/besthome and cast their vote. The winner will be announced during the following week’s episode.
Why you’ll love it
It’s basically sanctioned stickybeaking!
“I’m always looking for opportunities to look out. This is one of them. It’s been great going around the country, and finding out about different people’s processes, and their interactions with their own architect and builders,” says Tobias.
This is a must-see for anyone building their own dream home — or those just wishing they could.
