It hit shelves back in 1980, but this is the Women’s Weekly baking handbook like you have never seen it before – with a surprise twist.

The Australian Women’s Weekly has brought back its famous baking handbook – but with a twist.

It has joined forces with Allen’s to recreate the iconic 1980s Children’s Birthday Cake Book that features more than 30 epic cake hacks, ranging from cult classic recipes to the latest party themes.

The new lolly-filled party book, which celebrates 130 years of Allen’s, hopes to inspire a new generation of party cake bakers with its huge range of hacks.

It will also spark nostalgia for those who have fond memories of the cakes at parties across Australia.

“This is the first time Allen’s and The Australian Women’s Weekly have come together, to add a sweet Allen’s twist to a beloved classic - the 1980s Birthday Cake Book,” Nestlé head of marketing confectionery, Joyce Tan told news.com.au

“Just like Allen’s,AWW the Cake Book has been a childhood favourite in Australia for many years, so we knew it would be a match made in heaven. And, what’s a birthday party without a party cake.”

Baking enthusiasts can nab the book for free from Coles when they purchase three Allen’s or Bakers Choice products in a single transaction.

The two brands joining forces has been described as the “perfect pairing” and was a no-brainer for WW.

“This collaboration of two truly recognisable brands with such strong heritage in Australia was a match made in heaven – there is no better time to get into the kitchen and enjoy these new creations,” Sarah-Belle Murphy, executive general manager of publishing at Are Media, said.

The book has been so popular that when WW released a 40th anniversary edition last year, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern even got among the fun.

She took to Instagram at the time to share her recreation of the much-loved “piano” cake for her daughter Neve’s second birthday, at the time.

“Cake making lesson number two – don’t focus on making the cake look in proportion with little to no attention on structural integrity … there is a jar of lentils propping this thing up,” she wrote. .

It appears to be a tradition for the PM who previously made the bunny cake from the classic recipe book, also for her little girl’s birthday.

The new lolly-filled Allen’s Party Cake Book will be available exclusively at Coles from Wednesday, September 1.
