A sighting of a common product out of its usual place in one major supermarket has brought a heated debate to life.
Australians have long debated whether one of our nation’s favourite treats - Tim Tams - should be kept in the fridge or the pantry. Now, at select Woolworths stores, shoppers can find Tim Tams in both the biscuit aisle and the fridge section, but only for a limited time.
A selection of Tim Tam varieties - Original, Double Coat, Chewy Caramel, White Chocolate and Dark Chocolate - will all be part of the fridge selection until January 28. During that time they’ll also be sold half price ($3) regardless of which aisle you grab them from.
Many weighed in on the choice, offering their personal preferences on where they thought the snack belonged.
“Team fridge,” one social media user declared, while another went a step further and said they were “team freezer”.
Another added: “Pantry gang rise up.”
One said: “Cupboard.”
“Pantry,” another social media user agreed.
A handful more were all torn, with a few more tossing freezer in the mix as an option.
Arnott’s senior marketing manager for chocolate Rebecca Chan said: “Personally, I love the melt-in-your mouth moment of a Tim Tam biscuit straight from the pantry, which also is perfect for a Tim Tam slam.
“However, a cool, crunchy Tim Tam from the fridge is always nice on a warm summer’s day.”

Meanwhile a Woolworths spokesperson said they hoped they could finally settle the debate about where Tim Tams should be stores.
“That’s why our Tim Tam loving customers this week will be able to pick up a cold and crisp packet from our fridges or find them in the chocolate biscuit aisle,” the spokesperson said. “Whichever way our customers prefer, we’ve got them covered.”
The move comes after it was revealed Tim Tam Original was the most popular biscuit in 2024. However, the Tim Tam was the only sweet biscuit in the top five. It was followed by Barbecue Shapes, Chicken Crimpy Shapes, Pizza Shapes and Jatz.
Tim Tam Double Coat jumped up two spots from 2023 to sit at number six. It was followed by Salada Original, Mint Slice, Scotch Finger and Monte Carlo.
There are more than 130 types of Arnott’s biscuits and crackers. The oldest biscuits that can still be purchased are Milk Arrowroot, Arnott’s Water Crackers, SAO, Ice VoVo and Scotch Finger.
