WHETHER it’s spit-roasted pork with a super-hot sauce, or a soft wrap cradling crisp beer-battered fish, when it comes to tacos we’ve got you covered.

Here’s four of Melbourne’s best.

La Tortilleria

They are namechecked by such chefs in the know as Paul Wilson, who hail the nixtamal corn tortillas at La Tortilleria as good as anything found in the US and Mexico.

“The difference between nixtamal corn and wheat or cornflour tortillas is like single origin v instant coffee,” Paul says.

Along with the al pasador (pork) asada (beef) and campechano (beef and chorizo) on the main menu, an extended menu is offered on Taco Tuesdays.

Lady Carolina

Lady Carolina’s street kitchen is where Brunswick’s cool kids come for margarita on tap-fuelled fun times and best-in-class tacos, thanks to head chef Cindy Flores.

Spit-roasted pork marinated in luridly coloured achiote (a Mexican mixed spice mix) is piled high and topped with chunks of fermented pineapple, crunchy pork puffs and finished with a hot-hot-hot habanero salsa with its creeping but persistent heat.

They are the real deal delicious.

Los Hermanos

It’s got one of the best beer lists on Brunswick St, now Little Hop’s also got the best snacks to go with, because Los Hermanos is now also in the house.

Brunswick’s top taqueria has taken over the kitchen serving up the taco al pastor (spit-roasted pork and pineapple) and the fish tacos Los Hermanos is famed for.

Rotating rare and one off brews on tap served until very late (1am weekends) seals the deal.

Tommy Ruff

Pescetarians aren’t forgotten in this wrap and roll roundup and Tommy Ruff’s the best place to get your fish taco on.

Fish bites, beer battered and golden crisp, come served on a soft taco, topped with vibrant slaw and finished with a bitey Mexican-style salsa.

The perfect grab and go snack or opener to a more full fish feast.
