The announcement came via a Twitter post from the makers of the iconic spread you either love or hate.

The product has undergone various reinventions over the years but this latest incarnation sent social media into meltdown and left many asking is the latest move taking it a step too far.
The term Vegemite was soon trending on Twitter with the subhead “Australia’s beloved yeast-extract spread is coming in cold and people aren’t ready”.
Following the titillating official tweet, one Twitter user helpfully posted his own recipe for “Vegemite ice cream pops”. Like they’re a good thing.

Others were more sceptical — even scathing — in their approach.

That's very scary. As a Brit, I like Marmite but I also like Vegemite. But Vegemite or Marmite popsicles are a scary proposition
