Foodies have been sharing their favourite culinary trends on social media but this new take on a charcuterie board may be the best yet.

People claim this is the new charcuterie board

There have been a lot of food trends from the viral whipped fetta pasta to avocado, condensed milk and ice in a bowl – but this new take on a charcuterie board may be the best yet.

The butter board trend has been circulating on social media, with several versions being inspired by TikTok user @justine_snacks, after posting her own version of the concept by Oregon-based chef Joshua McFadden.

It has been mimicked by the likes of influencer Michael Finch and even had South Asian and Middle Eastern twists on it.

Justine posted a video on Saturday showcasing a butter board, revealing she wanted to make it the new charcuterie board format of choice.

“Not to usurp charcuterie – but maybe a little,” Justine said in her clip.

“But mostly because I love the concept – it’s by Josh McFadden and it’s all about serving a bunch of people.”

Essentially, food lovers spread softened butter out onto a wooden board and top it with salt, lemon zest and other herbs.

In the clip, Justine opts for red onion, coriander and honey to her board.

“Serve with warm bread and it just feels really communal – I love it,” Justine said.

The video blew up, garnering more than 7.7 million views.

Not everyone was a fan of the communal dish, adding they would need to use a knife or have to have their own due to germs.

Other social media users were immediately in awe of the brilliant treat.

“Serving a bunch of people. I was excited about making one for myself,” one user said.

Another added: “I can’t wait to spend $16 on this at a restaurant in six months.”

One said: “Wow, I'm gonna make this for myself every single day.”

The South Asian version of the dish – created by @zaynahsbakes – involved mango chutney, garlic, chilli flakes and naan.

Meanwhile, the Middle Eastern version involved ditching the butter and opting for labneh – a yoghurt, za’atar, olives, mint and olive oil.

The account who shared the clip, @zestyz_official, used pita for their bread of choice.

Other’s shared their own takes, such as adding goat’s cheese, mixing different types of butter or cream cheese instead.

The trend is gripping social media, with one person claiming they saw a clip of one a week ago and now have seen dozens.

Another said: “Listen, I’ve never heard about it until today and now I’ve heard about it 100 times.”

One added: “I’ve seen 18 of these. TikTok knows what I’m about.”
