You don’t have to be a master baker to create some tasty desserts.

The food team at taste.com.au has come up with some easy recipes to enjoy at home — or that will make you the talk of your next dinner party.

Here are eight of our top favourites:

Tiramisu

Tiramisu is an Italian dessert that translates to “pick me up”, and it certainly does just that. This trifle consists of layers upon layers of delicious savoiardi sponge finger biscuits that have been dipped in coffee and layered with creamy mascarpone and cacao.

Although it hails from Italy, tiramisu is an Australian favourite.

It’s a perfect choice for dinner parties as it can be prepared in advance and your guests are sure to go back for seconds.

Although it might be tempting to dig in as soon as those melt-in-your-mouth layers are in the dish, it really is best to keep tiramisu in the fridge for at least two hours, if not longer.

This allows the biscuits to really mop up the bitter coffee flavour to perfectly offset that sweet mascarpone. While some people like to add twists, such as adding chocolate, we prefer to keep things simple (although spiking it with marsala doesn’t hurt!)
