If your juniors also love the second most popular line in The Kids’ Common Phrasebook (“I’m HUNGRYYYY”), taste.com.au has got the perfect thing to keep them busy and satisfied.
Enter the Caramilk rice bubble slice. It’s the ultimate kid-friendly sweet treat that’s bang on trend at the moment, tastes delicious and is so easy to make.
The cereal baking trend
This year, Aussies can’t get enough of using cereals as a base for dessert. Taste’s lemon Weet-Bix slice recipe was shared 3k times on Facebook, while a choc-mint crackle (made with rice bubbles) got 3.5k reactions.
So why are kids loving cereal-based sweet treats so much? Of course, most children just dig a bit of cornflakes & co action.
But generally, most of these recipes don’t involve any baking, which is why they’re perfect for the kids to make. It’s often as simple as melt, mix, set (and then devour, of course).
And it works for parents too – with the current cost of living, you’ve got to love simple recipes that don’t require loads of ingredients (you’ve probably already got most of them in your pantry).
How to make Caramilk rice bubble slice
It couldn’t be easier. First, melt condensed milk with butter, vanilla and Caramilk in a small saucepan for 5 minutes (this is probably the only part they’ll need you for).
While you leave it to cool, blitz sweet biscuits (we used Scotch Finger Salted Caramel Tarts, but any plain sweet biscuit is fine!) in a food processor or blender until it resembles fine crumbs.
Mix the biscuit crumbs with rice bubbles and coconut, then pour the condensed milk Caramilk mixture in and stir to combine. Place in a lined baking tray and refrigerate for 2-3 hours or until set. While you’re waiting, it’s a given that the kids (and you) get to lick the bowl.
Next, melt more Caramilk with oil – adding the oil makes it perfectly smooth and prevents the chocolate from setting too hard later. Pour it all over your rice bubble mixture, then chill for 30 minutes.
