KFC Australia unveils new brekky recipe with MasterChef star

KFC Australia teamed up with a MasterChef star to develop a new recipe and while some are excited by it, others have second thoughts.

KFC releases Chicken 'n Croffles

Have you ever heard of Chicken ‘n Croffles? Well, it’s KFC Australia’s latest addition.

Basically it’s a combination of the fast-food chain’s popular Wicked Wings and a croissant-waffle hybrid that’s promised to turn regular waffles into a distant memory.

The brekky item isn’t on the menu — it’s the latest instalment of this year’s Kentucky Fried Cookin’ series that was developed by MasterChef alum Reynold Poernomo who owns Sydney’s iconic KOI Dessert Bar.

However, it’s a recipe you can make at home with Reynold sharing a YouTube video on how to make his brekky dish.

Nonetheless, it’s got KFC fans talking with some eager to give it a go and others not so much.

“No,” one person demanded on Facebook.

“No way,” another added, while a third said: “One simply does not eat chicken for breakfast.”

The recipe includes a spicy kewpie mayo slaw packed with sriracha sauce and smoked paprika alongside pickled onions, KFC’s Wicked Wings and a drizzle of maple syrup.

According to KFC, “it’s the breakfast dish you never knew you needed”, saying it’s “like nothing you’ve ever seen”.

Reynold, who also happens to be a “part-time master” of KFC hacks described it as a “game-changer”.

“If you haven’t already, go get a waffle machine because this is one of the easiest and tastiest ways to take your brekky game to the next level using one of my KFC favourites, Wicked Wings,” he told news.com.au

The latest episode of Kentucky Fried Cookin’ follows on from Morgan Hipworth’s Popcorn Chicken Cupcakes, Mitch Orr’s Zinger Katsu Curry and most recently Chebbo’s Christmas Tender Sandwiches.

It’s not the first time the fast-food chain has caused a bit of a stir online.

Last month, it debuted its new Pizza Double to much shock.

The creation featured two of its signature spicy Zinger fillets acting as the bread bun and it left some fans with their jaws wide open.

KFC Australia described it as the “ultimate indulgent combo” — and while many agreed, others weren’t so sure how they felt about having chicken act as the bread.

“I’ve got to say this one doesn’t look great,” one person wrote on Instagram.

“Would be rude not to try,” another user joked, while a third said: “How can you say no to that smile.”
