Jackalope Hotel’s executive chef Guy Stanaway reveals his favourite places to eat and drink on the Mornington Peninsula.

Phase Two

11/3050 Frankston-Flinders Rd, Balnarring

This great little meeting hub has successfully kept us all caffeinated throughout COVID using Commonfolk’s locally roasted coffee beans. This neighbourhood café boasts all the brekkie classics, each with a unique twist. Don’t forget to try their smoothies.

Millers Bread Kitchen

116 Nepean Hwy, Dromana

A young crew giving it a red hot go hand-crafting bread, pastries, pies and sweet things My wife and kids are obsessed with their flaky pastries and creative cakes. Their artisan breads are created using locally sourced flours and farm produce. My favourite is their sourdough – it’s made with freshly milled Tuerong Farm flour and has an incredible flavour.

Hawkes Farm Hot Chips

661 Boneo Rd, Boneo

Hawkes Farm is one of the most beautiful places to grab fresh produce. But the standout has to be their weekend specialty – triple cooked hot chips made with their farm grown Sebago potatoes served straight from their food truck… the perfect treat after a weekend surf at Gunnamatta.

Del Posto 2409

2409 Point Nepean Rd, Rye

This Italian gem is my saviour when I’m in need of a delicious, traditional, homemade pasta. Translating to “of the place”, Del Posto is just that. Chef Melinda’s Italian heritage shines through - it is one of the few spots on the Peninsula which produces consistently delicious Italian food. And it’s perfect for children as well.

Daniel’s Run

Up until this season Cheryl’s sought-after heirloom tomatoes have only been available on restaurant menus, but this season they’ve introduced offering subscription boxes. The boxes are filled with the most incredible organic and locally grown tomatoes. My pick is that these are going to be a hot ticket item over summer.

Cherries

Cherry season runs from November to January down on the Peninsula and Red Hill is packed with places where you can pick up a box. Red Hill Cherry Farm (Victoria’s oldest pick your own cherry farm) is my favourite, but don’t be afraid to pull over at any farm gate to grab a bunch, each are as good as the last. redhill-cherryfarm.com.au

Fine dining restaurant Doot Doot Doot and casual restaurant Rare Hare are now accepting bookings for summer.
