When it comes to frozen potato treats, it’s safe to say us Aussies are fans.
Who can forget the uproar when Potato Smiles were discontinued from supermarkets – as well as the excitement when they were reintroduced (as the made-over Potato Emojis) in 2020.
So it is no surprise that Aldi shoppers have been excited by the addition of a new potato treat, with some even saying they would make the perfect Valentine’s Day meal.
The German supermarket is selling Potato Hearts for $2.49, with the “super cute” freezer item easily cooked in an air fryer or oven.

“Check out these super cute Potato Hearts from @aldiaustralia for $2.49,” Instagram account @addicted_to_bargains shared with their followers.
“How cute are these? Will be a perfect side for Valentine’s Day,” another shopper shared in the Aldi Mums Facebook group.
Others said they would be “searching for these tomorrow” when they went to Aldi, while another commented: “Valentine’s Day dinner sorted.”
“We need,” one person wrote on Instagram.
“I’ve tried all fortnight to get some. Freezer section has been empty,” another shopper lamented.
An Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au the Potato Hearts were part of the brand’s seasonal range and were only available for a “limited time”.
It’s not the only food Aldi has stocked recently that has caused a stir among customers with the supermarket selling a jar of two truffles for just $6.99 last month.
Customers were warned to get in quick if they wanted to get their hands on the Deli Originals Italian Truffles.
Sydney food blogger Adrian Widjonarko shared that the popular item had returned with his 133,000 TikTok followers, saying he “can’t believe you can get truffle for $6.99”.
“Run to Aldi people, it’s now available again,” Adrian said in the video, which has been viewed 59,000 times.
“This truffle is super affordable for $6.99, perfect for (a) taste test.”
Truffle lovers who watched the video were also excited by the news, advising others to hurry to the supermarket so they don’t miss out.
