A highly anticipated product has quickly become a best selling item, topping its category after less than a week on the shelves.
Coles released its $5 Freeze-Dried Rainbow Crunch into stores this week. Freeze-dried lollies have been popularised in the United States and the United Kingdom.
And, because freeze-dried lollies are relatively new to the Australian market, shoppers have rushed into stores to get their hands on them.
Popular food content creator JordsEats went to five different Coles before finding the confectionary item.
“They smell really good, I’m a bit scared,” he said.
After taking a bite he declared the lollies were “a bit sour but good”.
“They remind me of a Skittle but extra sour and freeze dried,” the content creator said, adding they were “very addictive”.
Meanwhile another content creator, MamaChantel, said she was “instantly obsessed” with the sweet treat.
Maddi Rawson also declared the Freeze-Dried Rainbow Crunch a hit.
Several other social media users were keen to get their hands on the brand new confectionary item.
“Why am I seeing this after going to Coles,” one person begged to know.
Another said: “RUNNING TO COLES TOMORROW.”
“Yes I got two packets today,” one social media user commented.
One social media user commiserated: “WHY AM I SEEING THIS THE DAY AFTER GETTING BRACES.”
Others complained that they hadn’t seen the lollies at their local Coles yet, while some wondered if there would be versions that aren’t as sour introduced.
A Coles spokesperson told news.com.au that the confectionary item had become an instant success among customers.
“Our customers have really ‘chilled out’ with our Freeze-Dried Rainbow Crunch new line of lollies, which launched only this week and has since become our best-selling Coles branded confectionary product already,” a Coles spokesperson said.
“We know Freeze Dried Lollies are quite new to the Australian market but have been available overseas, so a lot of customers know about them but haven’t been able to find them readily available or at an accessible price.
“We’re proud of the work we have done with our partners to bring this exciting innovation to Coles’ shelves nationwide for just $5.”
It comes after the supermarket announced a brand new hot cross bun collaboration with Arnott’s
From Monday, February 3, shoppers could get their hands on the Coles Arnott’s Wagon Wheels-inspired hot cross buns, packed with chocolate biscuit, marshmallow and jam.
It marks the second year in a row Coles has collaborated with Arnott’s to develop a series of fan-favourite combinations, including Iced VoVo and Pizza Shapes-inspired hot cross buns, which “flew off shelves” and received “rave reviews”.
Last year’s introduction of the savoury servings of Vegemite and cheese and burger flavours weren’t as well-received and have been axed from shelves.
But the grocery giant believes the new collaboration will be an “instant hit”.
