Clocks will move back an hour in five states across Australia this weekend, as daylight saving comes to a close.

At 3am on Sunday, April 2, clocks will wind back an hour to 2am local standard time in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and Norfolk Island.

Sunrise and sunset will be about an hour earlier on Sunday, meaning there will be more light in the morning.

Daylight savings is not observed in Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Christmas Island or the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

What you need to do

Smartphones and digital devices connected to the internet typically reset the time automatically.

If you set your iPhone alarm for 6am, you can guarantee it will wake you up at the right time.

Manual clocks are a different story, so you will need to adjust the time inside your car, microwave, analogue watch and wall clocks.

Fish around in the front compartment of your car for the manual and switch your car over to the right time to make life easier.

Clocks will stay at this time until October 1 when they will again move forward for daylight saving.

What time is it in my state

From Sunday, clocks will turn back an hour in five states.

Here are the time’s in each state.

NSW & ACT

Residents turn back from 3am to 2am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) zone.

There is one small exception to the rule, with Broken Hill residents on the same time zone as South Australians.

They will also move their clocks backwards by one hour at 3am on Sunday, leaving them half an hour behind other NSW residents.

Victoria

Residents turn back from 3am to 2am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) zone.

South Australia

Residents turn back from 3am to 2am Australian Central Daylight Time (ACST) zone.

ACDT is half an hour behind AEST, meaning South Australians are always half an hour behind NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania.

Tasmania

Residents turn back from 3am to 2am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) zone.

Queensland

Nothing will change for Queenslanders - their clocks will stay on Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

They will stay on the same time as NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania until October when daylight saving returns.

Northern Territory

Nothing will change for NT residents - their clocks stay on Australian Central Standard Time (ACST).

They will now be half an hour behind the east coast of Australia and Tasmania, joining SA residents on ACST.

Western Australia

Western Australians also do not follow daylight savings, and will keep their clocks three hours behind the east coast on Australian Western Standard Time (AWST).
