‘Feminism has had its place but are some feminists going too far?’: Nikki Osborne in defence of men

Some feminists have gone too far. Enough of the “yass queens” and their baseless attacks on men, it’s time we all showed some respect, writes Nikki Osborne.

Women aren't funny because …

I’m discovering that it’s almost as impossible to be a guy now as it is to be female.

In Australia that is. Obviously I can’t apply that statement to other countries where women are still banned from education and forced to wear what they’re told.

Feminism certainly has its place, as we’ve had to battle hard to get equal rights, but are some feminists going too far?

Oh Lordy, I can already feel the pink hair brigade’s keyboards angrily firing up. Hear me out first. Then you can start calling me a misogynist. A misogynist you ask? Yes, that’s one of the many names I’ve been called by my very own sisterhood.

In fact, I’ve been absolutely hammered by legions of angry women whipped up into a frenzy by some trumped-up reality TV star for jokes I’ve made.

Women attacking women, all in the name of feminism. Sheesh, aside from the hilarious irony, it made me think “geez, imagine what the guys cop”.

One comment read, “You’re just one of the boys are you?!’’

Well, yeah, I am. I married a man and created two more and, as such, these are my favourite people. So naturally, I am equally as defensive of their needs as mine.

Also, I’m becoming acutely aware that young men are being treated as guilty before they’re proven innocent.

Young women or “yass queens” seem to be particularly mean online towards boys without any remorse and this is resulting in the “Andrew Tate” effect.

These young, disenfranchised guys are reacting by latching on to whatever Andrew Tate spews out. CAN WE PLEASE FIND THE GODDAMN MIDDLE GROUND??!

No “cause” is an excuse for being nasty online, righteous trolling is just that, trolling.

On the other hand, there are still plenty of toxic chauvinists out there too. Men who, whether it’s deliberate or not, honestly assume that they’re the superior gender and comment as such.

The recent Matildas phenomenon certainly drew them out into the light.

I put up a post about how proud I was of the girls and my favourite comment was this: I’m not going to watch a bunch of lesos play a man’s sport badly.

I simply responded with: “Who hurt you?” Because a happy, self-assured individual wouldn’t write that and also I think most would agree Sam Kerr’s semi-final goal was world class.

Another amusing example of toxic masculinity is whenever one of my comedy videos goes viral, a lot of the comments are: “That was hilarious, who writes for you?” Face palm.

Why is the assumption that I can’t write something funny? Is it because I’m female or because I look like a weather girl? Or is it just the programming that men are funny, women aren’t?

Men are from Mars, women from Venus, but somehow we got stuck on Earth together so can we please just treat each other with respect?

Because at the end of the day, if it all goes tits up and war breaks out, who’s going to be holding the guns?

Some food for thought.
