A new trend has emerged: men are embracing the crop top, taking a page from women’s fashion books.

It’s no secret that men have started having more fun with how they dress in recent years. They’ve begun to step away from just wearing board shorts with a bold print and whatever shirt their mum bought them for Christmas and instead experimenting with clothes.

Should we thank Harry Styles? Probably.

Creator Devin Michaels, who has more than 1.5 million likes on TikTok and describes himself as an ex-athlete, has taken to social media to share that he loves showing off his midriff.

Michaels posted a video of himself wearing loose black shorts, a baseball hat, and an oversized white T-shirt. He looked like any other guy you’ve ever walked past at a pub, except his oversized shirt didn’t cover his entire torso.

He was responding to a viral video that declared the “sluttiest” thing a man can do right now is wearing a shirt that is cropped.

“It is time to slut it up, guys. This is our crop top summer. Look at that just a little bit of belly!” He said.

The clip has amassed more than 200,000 views, and in the comment section, people were feeling divided.

“Does this work if I have a beer belly instead of a six pack?” One man asked.

Michaels replied that he thinks that would look even “better” paired with a crop top. Another guy declared he wouldn’t try the trend because people would “laugh” and “judge” him.

New fashion trend men are embracing

One woman begged Michael to “style” the men in her era because she loved the combination of short shorts and a crop top on a man, and an excited lady commented and said Michael’s outfit made her “squeal.”

He also revealed that while some stores have started making crop tops for men, he has taken matters into his own hands and started cutting up his shirts to get the look.

Men wearing crop tops has been slowly becoming more and more popular in recent years, but now, with retailers like Bronze Snake beginning to jump on board, it could be going mainstream.

Interestingly, the crop top look isn’t reserved for one particular type of man online.

Everyone from the gym bros who want to get their belly buttons out in the weights section, to the hipster music boys are jumping on board.

Creator Ethan Garland shared how he cuts up his vintage shirts into crops because he thinks they suit him better.

He explained that cutting the perfect length is all about “portions,” if you cut your top correctly, it will show off your legs.

People in the comments were full of praise. Someone said they’d been “waiting” for men to start wearing crop tops, and another wrote, “Yes, yes!”

Despite the trend taking off, some men are still not too thrilled with the stomach-confident look. Some people weren’t impressed when creator Winston Jones posted a video of himself wearing a crop top.

“What the hell?” One man demanded.

“How did it get to this point?” Another asked.

“What kind of men are in this generation?” Someone else wrote.

Of course, there were still plenty of people in favour of men wearing crop tops. One wrote that clearly crops were “made for men”.
