Catherine, Princess of Wales, learnt long ago that she could let her clothes speak for her. Since the beginning of her career as a senior royal, Kate’s relied on the subliminal diplomacy afforded by a certain item or designer: the colours, perhaps, of a dress and a brooch, to pay homage to an international visitor; elsewhere, the work of a local name, to nod to the nation state she happens to be touring.

Most resounding of all has been Kate’s resolve to champion sustainability. Not only does the royal turn to designers who incorporate ethical and environmentally friendly practices into their production process, but she chooses, time and time again, to rewear her favourite pieces.
