FROM Matthew McConaughey to Jamie Dornan and Joshua Jackson, last night’s Golden Globes proves 2015 really is still all about the beards.
Everywhere you looked on the red carpet, there were beards. Serial offenders Jared Leto and Jake Gyllenhaal led the way, followed by Ethan Hawke and Matthew McConaughey, who is apparently growing his facial hair for an upcoming film role. Even baby-faced Chris Pratt got in on the action, debuting a little bit of stubble.
Personally, I’m a fan. But don’t take my word for it. Here’s what our resident beard experts (read: they have some pretty impressive fuzz of their own) also had to say of the top eight beards of the night:
1. Matthew McConaughey
Matt says: 7/10. A little sketchy, but that moustache has some serious character.
James says: 6/10. Points for effort, McConaughey, but that growth is a little too wispy for me.
Kate says: 6/10. Beard is scraggly.
2. Jake Gyllenhaal
Matt says: 7/10. Beard game is tight, although it is pretty stock standard.
James says: 8/10. Neat and fully formed. Take note gents.
Kate says: 8/10. Even coverage, well trimmed, so dreamy.
3. Jared Leto
Matt says: 10/10. The fullness of this beard is impressive and now I am feeling selfconscious about my own growth.
James says: 9/10. I don’t care for his music, but his beard is hard to deny.
Kate says: 10/10. Jared Leto also wore his hair in a braid. Can this man do no wrong?
4. Joshua Jackson
Matt says: 8/10. This growth is proof that beards get the babes.
James says: 7/10. Pacey, you salty sea dog. Well done.
Kate says: 7/10. What Matt said.
5. Ethan Hawke
Matt says: 2/10. This growth makes me reassess my previous comment that beards get the babes.
James says: 3/10. A little too David Brent for my liking.
Kate says: 5/10. A goatee is like half a beard. Half points.
6. Jamie Dornan
Matt says: 9/10. A close second and all-round impressive growth. Clean and sharp.
James says: 10/10. Teaming strong beard game with strong hair game. We have a winner.
Kate says: 9/10. 50 shades of handsome!
7. Ian Somerhalder
Matt says: 3/10. A little less on the neck and more on the face would improve his beard game.
James says: 3/10. This is in the undesirable nether region between stubble and beard. Don’t go there.
Kate says: 5/10. I like a bit of stubble, but the neck beard is freaking me out.
8. Chris Pratt
Matt says: 2/10. While not the most impressive beard, I am going to give points for effort. I just hope he sticks with it.
James says: 5/10. Who cares about his facial hair? Chris Pratt can do no wrong.
Kate says: 4/10. Proof that a beard improves everything.
