Abbie Chatfield fronts new Myer campaign, shares shopping tips

It disappeared in the 90s, but this controversial fashion trend is back – and Abbie Chatfield says it’s “sticking around too”.

Abbie Chatfield has been announced as the newest face of Myer, fronting the Australian retailer’s annual denim campaign for 2022.

The outspoken podcaster and radio-host is leading the department store’s “Now For My Dream Fit” promotion to help shoppers find that ‘needle in the haystack’ pair of jeans.

And the 26-year-old has some sage words of wisdom for those who get frustrated at how hard it can be to find a good pair of jeans.

“I was always scared of getting that ‘real denim’, you know how we all usually want that stretch,” Abbie told news.com.au.

“But I say try on all different shapes and styles even if you think you won’t like them because something I got to do as part of this campaign is try on every style of jean and I have realised things I would never have thought to try on actually look amazing.”

Despite her recent revelation, Abbie says she’s always been a huge fan of the wardrobe staple, naming the Levi Ribcage Jeans ($149.95) as her all time favourite.

“They are the best jeans, I have them in like 3 different blues as well as a cream colour and I am obsessed because they fit so well.

“I’d say my hips are a 10 while my waist is an 8, and they’re the only jeans that fit both straight away and don’t lose their elasticity.”

The former Bachelor star explained she loves to pair her jeans with a classic ribbed singlet and a pair of sneakers for a casual look – but added you can dress them up easily too.

“Jeans are so good for work because obviously sitting down on chairs, skirts suck because your whole puss-wa (vagina) is out,” she stated.

“Pants usually get really tight around your tummy – but jeans are comfortable as f**k.”

In a series of stunning photos taken for the Myer campaign, Abbie is seen posing in a pair of Sass&Bide “Stay The Night Boyfriend Jeans”.

Her adorable adopted dog Marco appears in some of the snaps too, with Abbie explaining the 11-year-old cocker spaniel had only been with her for 24-hours when the photos were shot.

“He had separation anxiety and he just forced his way into the snaps,” she explained.

“All those photos are so beautiful and I am so grateful we have them because he just looks so gorgeous.”

In one photo, the dog can be seen perched on his new mum’s knee, while she posed in an all denim ensemble that sees the Hot Nights with Abbie host wearing a jean shirt over a black bra top along with the $280 pants.

Another photo shows Marco curled up in a ball on the bed beside Abbie, as she models in the same jeans but this time wearing a cosy mustard knit – while other shots show the influencer wearing the jeans with a cropped white cardigan in front of a bright blue car.

“Myer has been so amazing and open and so great to deal with,” Abbie said of her huge new gig.

“And if we’re being completely honest, I got some new jeans that I have been flexing on Instagram.”

However there was one uncomfortable detail she wanted to share about jean shopping, and that is to be prepared for the fact they will be a little tight for the first few wears.

“It is going to loosen up as all denim does, so therefore being OK with it being a little bit tight at the start is important,” she stressed.

“Make sure you’re ready for that [when shopping] because otherwise you’ll end up with jeans that are too big for you.”

If you’re a fan of low rise jeans, Abbie also reckons you’re in luck because the controversial 90s style is back – she even shared a photo wearing a pair on her Instagram recently, though it’s important to note she was dressed as Kimmy from Australian show Kath & Kim.

In the hilarious side-by-side photo, Abbie has pulled up a black G-string to her hips, a style the TV icon adopted regularly on our screens.

“I feel like, and this could be wishful thinking, but I think individual styles and cuts are really coming back,” she explained.

“If you enjoy the low cuts, then wear the low cuts. Obviously trends happen, but I just think we’re at a point where we’re going ‘you know what, I am going to wear what I think looks good on my body’.

“So while low rise jeans are coming back and becoming more acceptable, I also think the current cuts are sticking around too.”
