A pair of shorts sold at a popular fashion retailer has raised eyebrows over the tiny item of clothing.
A shopper named Ariana spotted the “Buckle Denim Mini Shorts” at a Glassons store and shared a video on TikTok expressing her shock. The shorts were being sold for $39.99 and are now 60 per cent off online, still available in sizes 6, 8, 12 and 14.
However it was the length of the shorts and the thin piece of material that made up the crotch that caught Ariana and her friend’s attention.
“This has become a joke now,” she said in the video.
“What do you mean? Whose (labia) is that thin?”
The women said they were just trying to find a “cute summer outfit” and asked “wtf happened at HQ?”.
News.com.au understands the shorts were part of a limited run sold as part of a festival range. Social media users were stunned at the shorts.
“Not the janties,” one social media user commented.
Another added: “It’s giving Suprè 2012.”
One said: “Glassons used to be sooo nice when they first opened. Showing my age...but now.”
“Y2K fashion is definitely back,” one said.
“I walked into Glassons the other day and IMMEDIATELY walked back out like what is happening,” one said.
One said: “$40 just to flash ya bits to everyone.”
Others called the shorts “so cute”. One pointed out summer — and therefore festival season — was coming so it wasn’t unexpected.
“I would wear all of these, what a slay,” another added.
It’s not the first time that shorts caused a stir online. Mum Elli Tamar slammed Kmart after being unimpressed by shorts on offer for her two-year-old daughter.
She pulled out a pair of size one silver “disco booty shorts” and asked what toddler would be wearing them. She added her daughter’s bottom would be hanging out.
The mother then pulled out other pairs of shorts designed for toddlers and was equally unimpressed. She said the shorts were no longer than the crotch.
“It’s coming up to summer, so I thought I’d get in early and buy some shorts for my two-year-old, and I was just horrified by the collection,” Ms Tamar told news.com.au at the time.
She said many parents opt for Kmart first due to its lower price point. For herself, she was shopping for clothes her daughter could wear to daycare without being too upset if they were destroyed or lost.
“The disparity between the girls and the boys section is appalling,” she said. She pointed out boys’ shorts went to the knee and their shirts aren’t cropped. This was the opposite of the girls clothing.
Ms Tamar said she ended up buying shorts for her daughter in the boys section. She said she was surprised Kmart hadn’t listened to earlier complaints on the same issue.
