When it comes to fashion, Channel 7 presenter Edwina Bartholomew is a self-described “mixed bag” where her wardrobe houses everything from Diane von Furstenberg shoes and Bianca Spender suiting through to oversized shirts and Bonds underwear. While she oozes glamour on set, Edwina’s daily style very much favours classic and comfort.
How would you describe your personal style? Utilitarian and classic. I like to buy quality basics and hold on to them.
Who are your style icons? Jennifer Aniston, Amal Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lara Worthington, Tash Sefton.
What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe? My wedding dress. It was worn by my grandmother and her four sisters. The veil is even older; my great-grandmother wore it when she was married.
What are your favourite brands? Assembly Label, Witchery, Cos, Vince, Foemina, Bianca Spender.
Have you ever made a style faux pas? Where do I start? There was the time my dress split at the Melbourne Cup and exposed my Spanx to the mounting yard.
What’s the most you have spent on an outfit? I have one pair of expensive shoes I bought at DVF in New York. I have absolutely worn them to death but I just keep on getting them resoled in the hope they survive.
What is the most surprising thing in (or about) your wardrobe? I’m in that in-between stage between clothes I wore when I was pregnant and clothes I used to wear pre-kids that no longer fit.
Top three wardrobe must haves? Oversized shirts, trench coat, jeans in all shapes and sizes.
What is the most sentimental item in your wardrobe? I’m holding on to some little teeny shoes and onesies that remind me of how little my babies once were.
What would you buy if money was no object? Furniture and art. I’m not a bag or shoe person. I would rather spend money on homewares.
Denim or suits? Suits for work but denim would be my preference out of the office.
Is there anything in your wardrobe you have regretted throwing out? I once bought a Burberry trench at a Vinnies store. It cost me $5. The sleeves were a bit short so I got rid of it. I realised too late that was supposed to be the style.
How many pairs of shoes do you own? I have a gazillion pairs at work that I can wear in the studio and nowhere else because they’re not terribly comfortable. At home I would have about eight. A couple of pairs of sneakers, a great pair of boots and lots of sandals.
Best designer fashion purchase this year? I bought a pair of Stuart Weitzman knee-high flat boots online. They were 50 per cent off and I wore them all winter.
Best bargain fashion purchase this year? I raid our local Bonds outlet frequently for the best Bridget Jones undies you can buy.
