It’s something we’re all guilty of, but for Elyse her blunder was in the public eye – and some people have found the relatable mistake pretty funny.

Ah celebrities, they’re just like us.

Well, except for when they make a spelling mistake, because chances are one of their hundreds of thousands of followers will take a screenshot.

That’s exactly what has happened to Elyse Knowles recently.

The model’s unfortunate spelling of a popular French word has gone viral after a screenshot of her mistake was shared on Twitter.

In the screenshot from her Instagram story, which was first shared by @celeb_spellcheck back in August, Elyse can be seen sitting on her bed with the caption: “Wallah.”

According to popular Instagram account – which is dedicated to highlighting the unfortunate typos of Australia’s biggest social media stars – Elyse was actually trying to spell voila, though the context of her Instagram post can’t be confirmed as it has long expired.

The post resurfaced when it was shared on Twitter and gained a lot of attention.

“Thinking about this influencer who can’t spell voila,” @DietMountainDru wrote alongside the screenshot earlier this week, with his post getting more than 22,000 retweets and 342,000 likes.

The post soon got hundreds of responses, with several people explaining that “wallah” is an Arabic expression meaning “I swear by God” – and there was every chance Elyse had meant that.

Others pointed out that voila was commonly mispronounced and misspelt, and could have an unfortunate other meaning:

Soon people were sharing their own unfortunate spelling mistakes, with one social media user revealing how she had spelt “Koala as Qualla” in a book for her husband.

“It’s been 11 years and he still gives me sh*t for it,” she added.

Another Twitter user posted, “My aunt can’t spell wh**e with a photos captioned: “Miss you Hoarrrrr”, followed by laughing and sad face emojis.

“For like an entire month in 5th grade I literally forgot how to spell ‘of’ and I was too embarrassed to ask so I just decided it was spelled ‘ove’ … still haunts me,” another person tweeted.

One Twitter user shared how their ex had thought dachshund was pronounced “deshawn”.

The moral of the story is: be grateful you’re not famous enough for your next spelling mistake to go viral, and can Instagram Stories get an edit function? (Asking for a friend.)
