MELBOURNE will cement its status as Australia’s food capital when it hosts one of the world’s biggest food business events next year.

Global Table, a new internationally focused food and beverage initiative, will be the largest food business event ever held in Australia.

An estimated 5000 food industry leaders, investors and traders from across Asia-Pacific will be in Melbourne next September for a program of events designed to highlight Victoria’s agriculture, food and beverage businesses.

One of the flagship events at Global Table will be Seeds&Chips, the world’s leading food innovation summit.

Established in Milan four years ago, Seeds&Chips now leads the international discussion about the future of food.

Past speakers include US President Barack Obama, former US Secretary of State John Kerry, and Starbucks executive chairman Howard Schultz.

Global Table is part of the State Government’s Taste Victoria strategy aimed at increasing Victoria’s food and fibre exports from $12.8 billion to $20 billion by 2030.

It will be the region’s largest food business event and will position Australia as the destination to discover innovation, technology and new food products.

Attendees will participate in a program of events in Melbourne and across regional Victoria catering for a range of audiences including researchers, retailers, entrepreneurs, food buyers and investors.

Food + Wine Victoria, the organisation behind the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, will deliver the event.

Food + Wine Victoria chairman Radek Sali said Global Table would introduce to the world our cafes, markets and restaurants as well as farms, wineries, breweries and food laboratories.

“Global Table (will be) a unique platform to showcase Victoria’s agriculture, food and beverage capability to the region’s top investors and traders,” he said.

“We are passionate about encouraging and enabling industry to unlock the enormous growth opportunities available.”
