A VICTORIAN restaurant has been named among the top 100 in the world— but has fallen several places from last year’s awards.

DAN Hunter’s Brae in Birregurra has been named the 58th best restaurant in the world, as the World’s 50 Best Restaurants announced its secondary 100-51 list ahead of the 2018 awards ceremony.

It’s a disappointment for the restaurant, dropping from 44 at last year’s awards that were held in Melbourne.

Brae is the only Australian restaurant to make this year’s secondary list.

This means Ben Shewry’s Attica in Ripponlea looks likely to again be the only Australian restaurant to make the top 50 at the 2018 ceremony awards to be held in Bilbao, Spain on June 19.

Attica was ranked 32 in last year’s awards and has been named Australasia’s best restaurant for the past five years.

Melbourne hosted the global restaurant awards last year, with the world’s best chefs, international media and restaurant industry personnel travelling around Victoria and Australia sampling a taste of our best restaurants.

This year’s 51-100 features restaurants from 23 countries, with 15 new entries.

The list is created from votes of more than 1000 food writers, critics, chefs and restaurateurs around the world, who base their choices on their best restaurant experiences of the past 18 months.
