I live in Balnarring and this restaurant is within walking distance. Whether it’s an early 6pm booking with the kids or a late night over a bottle of Côtes du Rhone, this ticks all the boxes. The service is warm and welcoming, the food consistently delicious — steak tartare, terrine de campagne or the porterhouse with bearnaise and frites.

PELIKAN SOCIÉTÉ

This super consistent cafe in Hastings is great for a morning coffee and a spot of breakfast. They make a mean folded eggs.

Great after a swim at the pool next door.

TORELLO FARM

Torello is a great farmgate store that we use for the restaurants at the hotel. I quite often make my way there to buy dinner for the weekend.

If I’m after new season local figs, the ridiculously good selection of potatoes or their own belted Galloway beef, it’s a great place to stock up on local seasonal produce.

RED HILL WINE COLLECTIVE

This little collective in Red Hill has an array of authentic, true to region and style gems. It’s run by a group of knowledgeable wine professionals.

There are no wine snobs here — it’s a great place to browse the selection, pick their brains and come away with something great to drink.

MERRICKS GENERAL STORE

This place is an institution, but it is one of my favourites. Great food, attentive service, and a really good coffee.
