A piping-hot bowl of pasta on a cold Melbourne night is as comforting as a hug.

Whether it’s al dente casarecce jostling in a hefty beef short rib, or sage butter-drenched agnolotti pillows of veal and rabbit, Park Street Pasta shows other neighbourhood locals – as well as more famous pasta bars – just how it’s done.

South Melbourne’s quaint corner Victorian building is cosy and welcoming; there’s a fireplace crackling in the front room, plenty of cosy nooks to settle in with a glass of red and vibe that’s take-a-seat-at-the-family-table inviting.

Two toasted, oil-licked focaccia slices sets the scene for the carb-laden meal ahead (and double as sauce mops later).

Come for chef Angus Cadden’s homemade pasta, but there’s deliciousness also found in creamy burrata and the cereal-sweet cannoli for dessert.

Interesting, mainly Italian, wines will land in your glass, and while busy periods can see the kitchen struggle to keep up, that pasta is always worth the wait.
