Controversial 2000's trend is making a comeback at Target

I don't know if we're ready for this one...

This outfit is giving peak Y2k — But is ita serve or a skip?

Over the last few years, we’ve seen a seemingly endless array of ‘90s and ‘00s fads and trends come back around again. Think low rise jeans, jelly sandals and layered tops.

However, some are certainly better than others - and this one is a no from me.

Is this really coming back?

It’s official, Target is bringing back one of the most infamous Y2K trends - wearing a skirt over pants.

The look was popular not only for everyday wear, but also for celebrities (think Ashley Tisdale on that one red carpet, wearing a skirt over her jeans).

Over the last few years, these kinds of combined skirt-pants have infiltrated the activewear space, as a cute yet accessible option for those in need of something comfortable and conservative.

But, it’s made its way into the streetwear space, with Universal Store, Jaded London, Princess Polly, and ASOS selling their own variations - and now it’s at Target.

Target’s skirt-pants

Target’s Skirt Pant Overlay by Lily Loves - in the work pants section of the brand’s website - come in both black and grey.

Retailing for $50, the piece is really made of two entirely separate items, with the skirt detachable to create three different looks - each on their own, and then together.

The item is brand new to the site, so only time will tell whether it becomes the staple it’s being put forward as.

But for me? It’s a no.

Again??

This isn’t the first time retailers like Target have jumped on the bandwagon with controversial fashion pieces returning to the market.

Earlier this year, Kmart joined in on the ballet flat trend, with jelly ballet flats.

The $8 shoes caused plenty of ruckus online, spurring both positive and negative opinions from shoppers.

“They were foul in the 80s and they are once again,” one person said.

“Actually love jelly shoes lol seems like I’m the only one,” another opposed.

“You will fart as you walk....promise. And your feet will look like a strung up pork roll..ready for roasting in the airfryer!!!” said another commenter.
