GLOBAL pop star Charli XCX has added fashion designer to her musician bow.

The cool school British singer has collaborated with global e-tailer boohoo.com to create a collection inspired by her love of the ’90s.

Echoing classic movie references such as the cutesy kilts of Clueless and gothic drama from

The Craft, the limited edition range showcases Charli’s trademark sassiness with

doses of fun and femininity.

Drawing on her art college experience, Charli pulled together initial mood boards focusing

on pop culture from the past touching on taffeta prom queens, disco divas, Beverly Hills princesses and punk rock feminists.

Standout pieces include a pink fondant bow skirt co-ord, gold bomber jacket and crushed-velvet wing playsuits in jewel tones. Accessories are equally matched with the throwback theme thigh-high lace-up boots and glitter platforms.

Here’s what Charli XCX has to say of her foray into fashion:

What does the term “girl power” mean to you?

Girl power, to be honest, it just takes me back to the Spice Girls, obviously, and, you know, I think that phrase it just reminds me of my childhood and reminds me of Geri Halliwell.

Obviously I think it’s all still super relevant now and I think it’s cool that that phrase is still thrown around so much and it is important for girls to recognise that kind of level of feminism where it really is just about supporting other women and respecting everyone’s ideas as a woman and being able to like coexist with other women without punching each other in the face basically!

I know that’s a very simple level but I feel like for me that’s what girl power was about when I was younger, just really like appreciating my friends and what we had.

What has influenced this collection?

It’s been cool designing things that not only I love but hopefully my fans will be in to as well.

I feel like obviously there are so many collections that are referencing the ’90s around now on the high street and it’s been nice to be able to make something that’s got my own twist to it, because sometimes I feel like when I’m looking for certain things I can only find it in vintage stores and I want to be able to create things that people can just get really easily and buy now. So it’s been cool to make my dreams a reality and I think my fans will like them!

You are well known for your love of all things ’90s with a fierce sense of style so how have you found the experience of designing pieces?

A lot of ’90s movies influenced this collection. I’ve always been really inspired by the costume design in Clueless and Cher Horowitz’s wardrobe, so there’s definitely like a chunk in the collection that’s very kind of schoolgirl/Cher-esque.

That’s one part of it and then there’s also been a sexier kind of side to it. We’ve done a lot of kind of cute, again, very ’90s-inspired dresses with like one shoulder and very glittery fabrics so there’s definitely a night-time party wear element to the collection too.

There’s some cute two pieces, flares and also a body suit that I’m really excited about with these kind of like larger cuffs, which are really cute, and like a kind of cross tie, sexy, tie-up thing in the middle. I don’t know the proper fashion word for that but I like that a lot!

What has been the best thing about designing this collection?

The best thing about designing this collection has definitely just been that I get to live out my 10-year-old dream of being a fashion designer without having to, like, staple things together.

I think for me it’s just something that I never really saw myself doing because I’ve always felt myself as just a musician. So to actually be able to do this and for it to become a reality is really cool.

The collection will be exclusively at boohoo.com from October 26.
