Take your body care routine into the stratosphere with these ultra-luxe body oils from Chanel's Les Exclusifs range.

Here at Body+Soul, we love body care, and we love body oils.

Hailed for their highly moisturising properties and surprisingly non-greasy application, they make a great addition to any skincare routine, particularly in winter.

Unlike the skin on your face, your body skin is tougher and can handle a heftier dose of hydration, especially on those joints like your elbows and knees that can get rough and dry in the winter.

Plus, if you’re not a regular moisturiser, the skin on your body won’t be exposed to the litany of lotions and potions that comprise your nightly skincare routine. Thus it’s probably lacking the antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins that help to strengthen the skin barrier and look and feel of the skin.

Long story short, body oil is a compulsory addition to your bathroom cabinet. And if you’re in the market for a new one, then why not treat yourself to the very best?

Les exclusifs de Chanel

For the uninitiated, Chanel’s beauty line features a range of covetable fragrances, including No.5, Gabrielle, Mademoiselle et cetera.

But there’s another, lesser-known range which truly lives up to the luxury the House is known for: Les exclusifs de Chanel.

Les Exclusifs are the most intricate of all the Chanel parfums, and it can take the House years to perfect a fragrance before it’s released. Each scent is inspired by a key element of Gabrielle Chanel’s life, and the Chanel brand.

Le Lion is Gabrielle’s appropriation of her star sign, Leo, which also became a totem animal throughout her life. Sycomore was named for the giant tree, which reminded Mademoiselle of her home in Auvergne.

How does all this relate, you ask? Well, Chanel has now released body oil versions of four of the key Les Exclusifs fragrances, and trust us, you want them on your vanity.

The Huile Corps from heaven

The Les Exclusifs Huile Corps, or body oils, see the House reinterpret four of the most-loved fragrances from the collection: 1957, Coromandel, Beige and Gardénia.

1957 is the year in which Gabrielle received the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award in Dallas, an important year and accolade in her life. The fragrance aims to recreate this feeling, and contains floral notes and woody, honeyed, powdery accent

Coromandel is a kind of fine-grained ebony, often used in furniture, which Gabrielle covered her walls with in her Parisian apartment. The soft fragrance has notes of patchouli, frankincense and benzoin.

Far from how beige as it’s used in a current context, Gabrielle gravitated towards the colour for its neutrality. She thought it elegant, evoking the natural beauty of sand, soil, and honey. The fragrance Beige features “an intense hawthorn-freesia-frangipani accord,” subtly enhanced with honeyed notes

Gardénia is a fresh, floral fragrance with accents of jasmine and orange blossom. It’s inspired, rather ironically, by the white camellia, a flower so perfect you can overlook its lack of scent.

As fragrance buffs will know, perfume needs something to grip onto if it plans to stick around on the skin. In winter, when we’re not sweating as much, and the cooler temperatures make lighter fragrances wane, a ‘sticky’ surface is all the more impactful.

Moisturisers or body oils make a great bed for fragrance, and layering the scent in oil and spray format elongates its lifespan even longer.

“These perfect mirrors never betray the original scent of their twin fragrances, but provide a soft and luminous new texture that is simply voluptuous,” writes the house of the launch.

Each body oil retails for a cool $428 for a 250mL bottle and while certainly not a low-key expense, they’re undeniably a beautiful addition to your body care routine. You can shop them direct from Chanel here.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in learning more about the process of developing the elusive Les Exclusifs range, the brand is holding a series of masterclasses with Chanel perfumers in Sydney this month.
