David Jones ambassador Victoria Lee is excited to be bringing the bright lights of her adopted home trackside this spring racing carnival at Caulfield.

New York City is the theme for this year’s Caulfield Cup Carnival and Lee says it will lend a unique buzz to the event.

“It’s such a great idea and I think it will be a lot of fun. New York is such a big, vibrant place so there is so much that can be brought to the track from uptown to downtown and all the iconic places,” she says.

“I think racegoers will really embrace the fun, I can’t wait to see how it comes to life.

Nothing beats that buzzing energy of New York.”

She combined her love of spring racing fashion and iconic New York locations in an exclusive shoot for the Sunday Herald Sun.

“It was really special to shoot something for my home country in my adopted home town. New York is so fast-paced that you often rush by these incredible locations without really taking it all in.

“This season I am loving the new palettes of colours coming through. There are some beautiful, unique prints and new shades of lavender and burgundy that look really chic for racing.

“I also am loving big headbands for racing, the beautiful velvet styles with detail like crystals and pearls are so cute. I think the hat has now evolved from a boater to big wide-brim styles that look elegant and chic.”

Bridget Veal, David Jones general manager of womenswear and accessories, says bright and bold suiting will be a key trend trackside.

“Take influence from the mono or tonal dressing trend and match your millinery to your suit colour. Ruffles and tiers and statement sleeves is another trending style with beautiful dresses flowing in sorbet shades and florals,” she says.

“Headbands and hair accessories are this season’s key look with beautiful jewelled or pearl embellishments, bright flower crowns and turban-style headbands. Also thanks to a new wave of stylish royals, traditional millinery is back.”
