Grab the tissues for this one.

Heartwarming Bluey episode reveals more about Chilli’s mum

Bluey fans around the globe often question what exactly happened to Chilli's mum. The idea that she has passed has been a long-running theory thanks to little hints dropped into some episodes, but her whereabouts has never been discussed in depth by the characters on the show. Until now.

The episode 'Dragon' - which appropriately aired on Mother's Day - finally introduces us to Chilli's mum, and addresses the theory that she has possibly passed away.

The very relatable episode sees the Heeler family sitting around the dining table drawing. As Bingo and Bluey struggle with their less-than-perfect drawings, mum Chilli and dad Bandit join in on the storytelling.

Chilli's important message to Bluey

As Bluey continues to struggle with the quality of her drawings, Chilli decides to share a story of her own. The scene flashes back to a moment when Chilli was a young pup and was getting frustrated with her own scribbles when her mum appears.

"Who's that?" asks Bluey.

"That’s my mum, your grandma," Chilli answers.

"Wow she’s beautiful," Bluey responds, hinting that Bluey and Bingo may have never met their maternal grandma.

While the exact reason for them not meeting their grandma is left up to the audience to interpret, the scene shows how Chilli's mum gently handles her daughter's struggle.

Chilli complains that her drawing isn't as good as the picture she is copying when her mum replies: "You’re right it isn’t. But it’s pretty good for a seven-year-old. Keep practising. you’ll get better. Just don't ever give up Chilli."

It's a touching moment that allows viewers to see just where Chilli gets her parenting approach from.

"Your mum sounds nice," Bluey says.

"Yeah she was."

And that's when the waterworks really begin.

Singer voices Chilli's mum

As the tears begin to flow, some fans might recognise the voice of Chilli's mum.

Aussie songbird Kate Miller-Heidke takes on the role and was thrilled to be asked to join the much-loved animation.

"As the parent of a 6-year-old, I've seen pretty much every episode of Bluey. Not only is it one of the only kids' shows that doesn't make me want to scratch my own bowels out with a stick, it's consistently clever, funny, surprising and so full of heart that I'm not ashamed to say it regularly makes me cry. It's something about the way it captures the pain and vulnerability of childhood," she says.

Kate wasn't the only person who got teary during the episode. After the new clip aired, fans were quick to turn to Twitter to share their thoughts. And pretty much everyone required a big box of tissues.

"My heart," one person tweeted, along with a snap of a moment from the end of the episode, which we won't mention in case you haven't seen it yet.

But... grab tissues. WAHHHHHHHH!

"Watched Bluey Dragon ep and... dang my feelings," a fan shared.

And another added: "In the new Bluey episode Dragon confirms that Chilli's mum has passed which is crazy that the 'Chilli's mum is dead' theory is actually true."

Bluey creator thrilled to bring Chilli's mum to life

Chatting on the Behind Bluey podcast, creator Joe Brumm shares a few details about the emotional episode.

Just like many fans who have said so online, Joe reveals that 'Dragon' is one of his favourite episodes of Bluey because it addresses so many questions in such a relatable way.

"Bluey can’t get her drawing perfect. Dragon is me finally saying everything I want to say," he says.

"It’s so emotional in one sense this episode. I’ve always wanted to make sure that you come away from Bluey knowing as much as you can about all the different family members and Chilli’s mum was sort of the last piece of the puzzle."

But for Joe, the episode doesn't only address what might've happened to Chilli's mum, it also gives us an insight into why Chilli is so gentle in her own parenting with Bingo and Bluey.

"There was just this idea that Chilli was on her own, mum wasn’t around and that was how my dad grew up.. his dad died quite young. He did chart his own course with being a dad because he just didn’t have an example there and so to me, that’s sort of what Chilli’s character is. To a certain extent, she is charting her own course as a mum," Joe shares.

"You see a memory of her mum and she is that person who would encourage her to keep drawing, so she is just passing that down."

Wait... here come the waterworks again!!
