Best places to get coffee at Melbourne Airport

Airport coffee gets a bad rap for being overpriced and underwhelming. But in the world’s coffee capital of Melbourne even terminal brews can be top-notch. Here’s three of the best.

Airports are manic places.

After navigating how you’ll get there (taxi, SkyBus, Uber or driving), queuing, checking in and security — you’ll be on the hunt for a pre-flight coffee.

Terminal brew gets a bad rap for being expensive, and often sub-par.

But at Melbourne Airport, there’s plenty of great tasting options — and more to come.

Proud Mary will open as part of Melbourne Airports revamp of T2 and T3 later in the year, and there will be 13 new restaurants and cafes opening.

ST ALI

T2, International Departures, after security.

Get your last fix of Melbourne coffee before you leave the country at St Ali in T2.

The shop overlooks the tarmac, so you can watch the planes take off and land.

St Ali serves coffees with a double shot as standard (8oz) costing $4.80.

Dine-in coffee of the same size is $5.50.

A small single shot coffee, which isn’t advertised, costs $3.90.

There’s also a red-eye (shot of espresso and filter coffee) to fuel your long flight at $7 each.

St Ali barista Jimmy Tran has won Melbourne Airport’s Barista of the Year competition for the last two years — so rest assured your coffee will be made well.

Open 5am to 10pm.

BRUNETTI

T4 in main food court and T2 International Departures, after security near gate 3+4.

Brunetti is known for great cakes and coffee, and you’ll find it at an affordable price tag.

An espresso, ristretto, short mac, mini cafe late is $3.90.

A small latte, cappuccino, flat white, long black, double espresso and a long macchiato is also $4.50.

Large coffees will set you back $5.80.

Iced coffee, chocolate and mochas, served with whipped cream and ice cream, are $6.90.

Brunetti’s takeaway and dine-in prices are the same.

T2: 5am to 10.30pm.

T4: 6am to 9pm.

CAFE VUE

T2, International Departures, after security opposite Sunglasses Hut.

The cafe arm of the famed Vue De Monde is pumping out coffee in the international departures, after security.

Cafe Vue doesn’t do small coffee sizes — and does get costly.

A regular takeaway double shot espresso coffee $5.50 (12oz) and a dine in double shot espresso coffee $5.30 (8oz)
