This Father’s Day, Myer ambassadors Kris Smith, Elyse Knowles, Rachael Finch and Sarsha Chisolm look back on the moments with their dads that changed their lives.
ELYSE KNOWLES
The Australian model and form contestant of The Block told News Corp one of her most memorable moments with her father Stu was when he introduced to the kneeboard on a boat.
“We were eager to give it a shot as soon as we could walk! Dad would drive the boat super slowly while we all got a feel for the water.
“While we were still learning, we would pretty much just float, holding onto the rope.
“There was one particular time I fell off and went under. It honestly felt like I was under the water long enough to see fish swim by!
“Dad instantly jumped in to save me. When we were back on the boat said: ‘You’ll be right. The key to fear is to give it another crack. When you fall down, it’s important to get right up again.’ I will never forget this.
“His words from that moment have literally become how I live my life today. I am always very grateful for my dad’s incredible strength and resilience.”
This year her family will celebrate at her grandparent’s house.
“I’m taking the lead on behalf of the Knowles family this year in terms of present buying!
“My top picks for Stu at this stage are, the Calvin Klein Axis Trunks, the Everdure Portable Charcoal BBQ by Heston Blumenthal, the Keep Cup,” she added.
KRIS SMITH
Australian model and former international rugby player Kris Smith, who is expecting his second child with girlfriend Sarah Boulazeris, said the moment he signed his first rugby deal was one he’d never forget.
“When I signed my first professional rugby contract, I noticed a smile and a twinkle in my dad’s eye I had never seen before, it was a moment of true pride that changed our relationship
forever,” he said.
“I will be spending Father’s day with my girls — all three of them.
“A day out, down at our fave local cafe. Unfortunately, my dad is in the UK, but I have made a point of sending him something special this year I know he’d love a Nespresso coffee
machine (but I didn’t send that), what I did send him is a stack of dad jocks — you’re welcome dad!”
RACHAEL FINCH
The Australian TV host, model and fitness guru said she will never forget the time her father Steve taught her how to ride her first bike.
“I’m teaching Violet [our daughter] how to ride a bike now so I’ve been thinking back to when I was learning … we were on the road out the front of our house in Townsville and Dad was running behind holding my seat,” she said.
“He softly let me go and said ‘You’ve got this Rae’.”
Finch will be celebrating Father’s Day in Sydney this year with her husband Michael Miziner, who she first met on Dancing With The Stars.
“I have a special day planned for Misha that involves a breakfast in bed, a massage, brunch and the day off from changing nappies!
“For my own Dad I’m going to really spoil him this year and get him a Breville pro coffee machine.
“He is well overdue for an update and he’s a man who loves his morning brew. Dad also lives in the northern beaches in Townsville where the nearest cafe is not so close, so he will appreciate being able to make a good coffee in the morning.”
SARSHA CHISOLM
As Myer’s Youth ambassador, Chisolm said she cherishes a time when she was in Darwin with her dad, former Fremantle Dockers player Scott Chisholm.
“A moment that I like to look back on that makes me smile that I shared with my dad, was when we went up to Darwin to see all the family,” she said.
“We celebrated every night, did a day trip to Litchfield Park which was beautiful and just shared so many beautiful memories with my family up there.
“I cannot wait to go back up and make new memories.”
On Father’s Day, she said she would be taking her dad out for a nice breakfast with the
family.
“We love cafe’s that have a view of the beach,” she said.
“Then, we will enjoy a swim (let us hope it is a warm day), followed by fishing.
“Ideally we’d catch something for dinner, but if we don’t we’ll just head to one of Perth’s many restaurants.
“Dad is such a sport guy, so I’ve decided on buying him a Fitbit Charge 3, ne needs a new wallet too.”
