Beauty Diary: Fun beauty products guaranteed to brighten your day

A shower product that looks like it belongs in the fridge caused a stir for a Sydney journalist when it was repeatedly mistake as a sex tool.

“Why have you got a can of whipped cream in your shower?”

That’s the question I was asked multiple times this week by friends who’d seen photos of my recent bathroom makeover.

While the can was in fact a “whipped shower foam” — tragically dashing my mates’ hopes I’d been caught red-handed in some sort of weird sex kink involving squirty cream – it made me realise sometimes fun beauty products are the actual best.

Sure, we all want our foundations to give us perfect skin and no one likes mascara that gives you panda eyes. But sometimes, going through your daily beauty regimen can get a little boring.

I mean, have you ever timed how long it takes to get ready just to face a normal day? It takes me between 20-30 minutes to get ready on a bog standard day (WFH days do not apply, obvs) – and on days when I’m washing my hair the job can take up to an hour.

So it’s easy to see how something you enjoy can quickly become mundane.

That’s why I’m a huge fan of having a play with my beauty stash, with fun products reinvigorating that boring routine and making it enjoyable again.
Here are some of my favourite feel-good beauty products that never fail to “spark joy” and bring a smile to my face.

SUNDAE COCONUT CREAM WHIPPED SHOWER FOAM

This stuff looks and smells good enough to eat, but don’t make the same mistake as my mates – this foam is for your body, not your plate. While it’s definitely not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a shower gel, it will certainly stay front and centre. To use the product you squirt the foam out, just like the edible version. The foam is super light and massages into skin easily with a lush, velvety feel. If you’re not a fan of fragrances, this probably isn’t for you, as the product smells heavenly sweet. There are eight “flavours” in total, two of which are sold in Woolies, making this delightful shower product super easy to pick up. Yay.

My favourite lip product recently released a few new varieties in drool-worthy limited-edition “flavours”, including chocolate and caramel. But my favourite is “Gummy Bear”. The delicious lollie scented lip mask will undoubtedly make you want to lick your lips – but don’t, as you’ll be missing out on its amazing healing and plumping benefits. If this palette doesn’t fill your heart with happiness, there’s something wrong with you. The array of pinks, purples and sparkles just makes me want to grab a glass of bubbles with my besties and hit a dancefloor. Plus, it helps that the product is NEXT-LEVEL. The pigment is insane and shades blend seamlessly. This palette is can’t fail to make even the dullest of days a little brighter. Obsessed.

SOL DE JANEIRO BRAZILIAN BUM BUM CREAM

This is one of my most-loved products even though I’m guilty of not using it as often as I should. But when I take the time to cover my body in this stuff, I’m left grinning from ear to ear. The cream is super fast absorbing and leaves skin softer than a baby’s bottom. It also smells like you’ve just spent a week on a tropical island thanks to its signature fragrance, a blend of pistachio, salted caramel and vanilla. If those benefits aren’t enough to put you in a good mood, the cheeky name will set you over the edge for sure.
