Australia’s lotto hotspots revealed

ALMOST $30 million was won in lotto draws in just one suburb last year. Find out if your postcode is one of the lucky ones.

AUSTRALIA has long been known as the lucky country, but it turns out some parts are luckier than others.

Almost 300 new millionaires were made across the nation thanks to lottery wins this year, with division one winnings totally more than $1 trillion, and a report shows where the millions were won.

Victoria came out with the title of Australia’s top lotto state with a total of 141 division one wins equating to more than $216 million in division one prize money.

But Queensland, where 105 division one entries were successful, actually racked up more cash with Queenslanders taking home $303 million in division one prize money.

The lotto hot spots are detailed in the latest data release from Australia’s lottery provider The Lott.

The biggest win was $55 million, taken home by a syndicate of 21 Queensland public servants in January.

The luckiest postcode was also in Queensland, with residents of Springwood selling four division one tickets totalling $27,497,085.

In NSW, Cabramatta was the top winning suburb with four division one winners pocketing $18,666,666.

In Victoria, Mill Park residents won $9,073,608 from four division one winning tickets, and in the ACT Gungahlin and Wanniassa were the luckiest suburbs when it came to lotto wins.

The highest number of millionaires created through division one lotto wins was in NSW with 77. Victoria has new 67 lotto-made millionaires as of December 2016, Queensland 63, and Western Australia 49.

While the data gives some interesting insights into where Aussies won big, The Lott spokeswoman Elissa Lewis said it was impossible to tell whether trends would be repeated.

“While it’s exciting to reveal where the most lotto wins occur, it’s important to remember that lottery games are entertaining games of chance and every number on your ticket has an equal chance of being drawn, no matter where you buy your ticket,” Ms Lewis said in a statement.

“So while we’ve seen clusters of division one wins in certain areas in each state, it’s important to remember these vary from year to year and that we’ve seen division one wins land far and wide across Australia in both metropolitan and regional areas.”
