“Is anyone else seeing this???”
Melbourne resident @daniliztravels has taken to TikTok after a surprising discovery at Hawthorn Bunnings.
“Okay, is anyone else seeing this???” she said in the video.
“I was at an inner city Bunnings today, and all of a sudden, they have gun safes… what is going on!?”
The woman clarified that it was not so much the fact that Bunnings would stock them that was the issue, but rather that they were being stocked at a metro Bunnings that barely has an outdoor range - specifically questioning the demand for such a product in the inner city of Melbourne.
“Bunnings Hawthorn: large gun safes for up to 5 firearms?” she added in the post’s caption.
“Last thing I expected to see at a store that doesn’t even stock grass because it’s ’too metro’….”

“The location does make it strange!”
A number of commenters on the post agreed with her, saying that given the location of the store, they would be shocked to see gun safes in the main aisles too.
“ooh yeah the location does make it strange!! I only really know of rural farmers who own guns... definitely interesting!” one commenter said.
“I get what you’re saying, fair enough suburban or regional Bunnings, but a smaller inner city one I wouldn’t expect them to stock them!” said another.
“They have always sold gun safes”
However, many acknowledged that while they may not have been so prevalent before, these types of products have been stocked at Bunnings for as long as people can remember.
“they have been selling them since at least 2017 when I worked there” one commenter said.
“They have always sold gun safes,” said another.
“they reckon they've been selling these types of safes for 15 years!” a third agreed.
Many even commended Bunnings for the move, saying it’s important to have gun safes readily available for those who do own guns - wherever they may be located.
“This is a good thing. There are super strict regulations as to how guns (which many people in Australia own) have to be stored. The availability in a convenient shop means that they’re more likely to be stored safely,” one commenter said.
Kidspot has reached out to Bunnings for comment.
